WagsphotoBy Bob Wagner, AAP Columnist

Every so often an opportunity comes along to fill this space with blatantly self serving advertising. This is one of those times.

The Harvest Festival, held on Saturday, Oct. 11, from 12 to 4 p.m., is being held at the new sports complex off of Westfield Ave., behind the MPWC offices, across the street from B. Tait’s shiny new construction company, otherwise known as the former Carlin’s Market for you old timers.

A Story About A Pretty Special Lady

JackKillionBy Jack Killion, Mayor of Pennsauken

Let me tell you a story about one pretty special lady.

She had nine kids of her own, but always took in more, especially when they didn’t have anywhere else to go. She had a lot of love for people. Sometimes that meant that she loved you enough to get tough on you, particularly if you knew better. And talk about an “open door” policy; her door was always open, especially on Sundays, where a bowl of spaghetti was waiting for all comers.

PREPARING FOR COLD WEATHER

Now is the time to begin preparing for the cold winter months!

Insulating or wrapping your hot water heater can make a significant savings in your energy bill. The water heater doesn’t have to work as hard when insulated, saving you money by avoiding premature replacement. Insulating wraps for water heaters can be found at any well stocked hardware store.

Be sure to turn off the water supply to any outside faucets or water lines, or to lines that run in unheated spaces. Water lines which must be kept “active” can be protected from bursting with inexpensive electrical tape. When temperatures drop, it warms the pipes. Make sure that the electrical tape is UL approved and install according to the directions.

And last but not least, disconnect, drain and store your garden hose to avoid winter weather damage.
