Annual Book, Tech And Bake Sale October 14-16

By Arlene Miller, Friends of the Pennsauken Free Public Library

It’s that time of year again. The Friends of the Pennsauken Free Public Library are holding their annual Book, Tech, and Bake Sale from Oct. 14-16 in the Community Room of the Pennsauken Free Public Library, 5605 N. Crescent Blvd., during normal business hours. There will also be a special member preview on Thursday, Oct. 13.

The Friends have already started collecting books and other donations and hope to fill up the entire Community Room by sale time. Feel free to rummage through your own closet, attic, basement, drawers, and other hiding places for all those books you’ve already finished or movies you can recite by heart to donate for others to enjoy. The Friends will be collecting items up until sale time, so there’s plenty of time to get your stash together. Please, though, no magazines, damaged books, encyclopedias, or VHS tapes.

Of course, you’ll also want to be at the sale to fill up the empty places you just created in your bookshelf with the whole new collection you’ll find during the sale, all at amazing prices.

Opening day will also be the start of our famous lobby bake sale, featuring all the tantalizing brownies, cupcakes, cookies, cakes, pies, and other assorted goodies guaranteed to make your mouth water. There will also be soft pretzels and assorted mini snacks – perfect for lunchboxes – on sale. If you’d like to bring over something you’ve baked for the sale, the Friends would love to have it; and guarantee it won’t be around too long.

Before you leave the lobby that weekend, be sure to pick up raffle tickets for the Wednesday, Nov. 16 drawing. You’ll definitely want to be part of it; we’ll be featuring five baskets worth at least $300 dollars each, filled with gift cards and merchandise generously donated by local merchants for restaurants, food, clothing, crafts, activities, fitness classes, etc. A complete list of prize donors will be on display in the Library next to the baskets. Tickets are $2 each or three for $5; they’ll be on sale at the Library’s circulation desk and at the Harvest Festival on Oct. 8. Think of all the goodies packed inside each of these fabulous prizes, then don’t leave the library without your chance to win one of them.

Stamp Exhibit, Munch And A Movie

Saturday, Oct. 22 kicks off “Knowledge through Books and Stamps,” a stamp exhibition the Friends are co-sponsoring with the Merchantville Stamp Club. Opening day ceremonies begin at 11:30 a.m., followed by pizza and hoagies. The exhibition runs through Oct. 28.

And last but by no means least, you’ll want to relax and be entertained at our October Munch and a Movie get-together. We’ll be meeting this month from 12:30 – 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18. We can’t announce the name of this movie, but you can find out by calling the Library’s circulation desk. As always, bring your lunch and the Friends will supply a snack, tea, coffee and water.

So, as usual, there’s a lot to think about. Mark your calendar for the sales and we’ll see you at the Library for all the activities. The Friends’ next monthly meeting is Wednesday, Oct. 12 at 7:00 p.m. We hope to see you there!
