Township, Library, Schools On Holiday Schedule For New Year’s 2020

The Pennsauken Free Public Library is closed on Tuesday, Dec. 31, for New Year’s Eve and will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 1, in observance of New Year’s Day.

Pennsauken Township’s administrative offices will be closed on Wednesday, Jan. 1, in observance of New Year’s Day.

Both will reopen on Thursday, Jan. 2, for normal business operations.

The Pennsauken School District will also resume classes on Thursday, Jan.2, with a regular class schedule.

New Year’s Day Holiday Trash Schedule
Pennsauken’s Department of Public Works reminds residents that New Year’s Day, Wednesday, Jan. 1, is a trash holiday. Wednesday’s yard waste and white goods collection will be on Thursday, Jan. 2. Thursday’s trash and recycling collection will be on Friday, Jan. 3. Friday’s trash and recycling pickup will be on Saturday, Jan. 4.

Library Holds Events For International Games Week

International Games Week is Nov. 3-9. The Pennsauken Free Public Library will be hosting several gaming events and activities during this week. Join us and thousands of libraries around the world, as we celebrate the power of games, play, and learning.

Stamp Exhibition Begins At Library Today

The Merchantville Stamp Club will hold annual competitive stamp exhibition, “MERPEX 2019,” during Stamp Collecting Month, which is observed every October. The exhibition will be held from Oct. 26 through Oct. 29 at the Pennsauken Library, 5605 N. Crescent Blvd., and is open during normal library hours.  

An opening ceremony will be held on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 11:30 a.m. Free refreshments will be offered after the guest speaker’s talk and presentation of awards to the exhibitors. The public is invited to attend this opening ceremony.

Friends Of The Library Book And Tech Sale Held This Weekend

The Friends of the Pennsauken Free Public Library are holding their annual Book and Tech Sale, beginning today and running through Sunday, Oct. 21. Held in the Library’s Community Room during normal business hours, the sale features a variety of books, CDs, and DVDs at reduced prices.

In conjunction with the sale, the Friends are also hosting their Fall Bake Sale. Held on Friday, Oct. 18, and Saturday, Oct. 19, during regular Library hours, tables will be filled with home baked brownies, cupcakes, cakes, pies, and cookies for purchase.

Proceeds from both sales benefit the Friends’ financial support of the Pennsauken Free Public Library.

The Pennsauken Free Public Library is seeking a dedicated, positive, energetic, and service-oriented individual to join our staff as a Library Assistant. The ideal candidate must enjoy working with the public and possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Pennsauken Library Holds Costume Exchange On October 6

The Pennsauken Free Public Library will hold a Costume Exchange on Sunday, Oct. 6, at 1:00 p.m. Parents and caregivers are invited to bring gently-used children’s and teen costumes and accessories to swap. Leave what you can… Take what you need!

Please note: the Pennsauken Library Youth Services Department will not be providing costumes for this event; parents and caregivers are encouraged to bring what they can to swap. Also, per library safety regulations, no child may be left unattended during any Youth Services program.

Library Holds Hispanic Heritage And Culture Festival On October 5

The Pennsauken Free Public Library invites the local community to their first Hispanic Heritage and Culture Festival. Held on Saturday, Oct. 5, from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Library, the Festival features events for the whole family, including music and dance, spoken word performances, information tables, health screenings and more.

Friends Of The Library Hold Fundraiser, Art Show

The Friends of the Pennsauken Free Public Library will be the beneficiary of a “Dine to Donate” fundraiser food extravaganza on Wednesday, April 17, 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the Silver Diner, 2131 Rt. 38 in Cherry Hill, across from the Cherry Hill Mall. Bring your appetite and as many friends as you want; let the servers know you’re there for the Friends of Pennsauken Library; and 20 percent of your total bill will be donated to the Friends at no cost to you.       

Art Show Held April 29 – May 5

Art projects are soon due for our annual Art Show and Sale, held April 29 through May 5. Entries will be accepted at the Library for all art work on Thursday, April 25, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.; and on Friday, April 26, from noon to 5:00 p.m. Art projects fall into many categories – charcoal, pastels, watercolor, oils, fabric, wood, metal, papier-mâché – so take your pick. All entries will be on display in the Community Room throughout the week during regular library hours, culminating in a Meet the Artist reception on Sunday, May 5, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Participating artists must be residents of Pennsauken or Merchantville in age groups from eighth grade through adult. You can find all the particulars of getting your entry ready for the show in the Art Show booklet on the lobby desk.

While all the art projects remain on display throughout Art Week, we have a wonderful repertoire of workshops and how-to sessions scheduled. They’ll all take place in the Community Room as well. Be sure to register for each workshop you’ll be attending on the sign-up sheet at the Circulation Desk, though; space is limited and on a first come, first served basis. Here’s what’s planned:

Wine And Cheese Tasting, Art Exhibition Held On May 19

On Sunday, May 19, the Strain Estate, better known as Inglesby & Sons Funeral Home, will be hosting a special fundraiser for the Friends of the Pennsauken Free Public Library: a wine and cheese tasting event along with a silent art auction, all of which will raise funds for the Library’s very popular Museum Pass program

Pennsauken Library Holds Special Event For “Makers Day”

The maker movement isn’t just a hobby; it’s having a significant impact on school curriculum and local economies. To celebrate making and maker culture, the Pennsauken Free Public Library invites the community to join them for the fifth annual New Jersey Makers Day on Saturday, March 23, 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., in the Community Room. This free and family-friendly event will be jam-packed with fun activities, interactive exhibits, presentations, and much more.
