In honor of Drinking Water Week 2015, the Merchantville-Pennsauken Water Commission invited fifth grade students to showcase their artistic talents by participating in our annual poster contest. This year’s entries focused around the theme: “What Do You Know About H2O?”

Students submitted entries focused on a wide variety of water related topics, such as the water cycle, conservation, where our local water comes from, and how it is delivered to our homes. Recognition was awarded to the top entries at the MPWC’s May Commission Meeting.

A Commitment To The Environment And Sustainability

The Merchantville-Pennsauken Water Commission is committed to protecting the environment and doing its part to practice and promote sustainability whenever possible.

Merchantville-Pennsauken Water Commission Voted Best Water In New Jersey

By Frank Sinatra, AAP Editor

The tagline for the Merchantville-Pennsauken Water Commission (MPWC) is that “Only Tap Water Delivers.” This statement was never truer than when the public water utility recently received the award for the best tasting water in the state by the New Jersey Section of the American Water Works Association (AWWA), the largest non-profit, scientific, and educational association dedicated to managing and treating water.

Hydrant copyTHE MERCHANTVILLE-PENNSAUKEN WATER COMMISSION’S SPRING FLUSHING PROGRAM WILL TAKE PLACE BEGINNING APRIL 12 AND ENDING APRIL 23 BETWEEN THE HOURS OF 7:00 AND 11:00 P.M.

Hydrant flushing is an important element in the continuing program to improve the quality of water in our system. This procedure clears the distribution system of non-harmful sediment that may build up over time. The MPWC schedules hydrant flushing during night hours to create the least impact on our customers.

The MPWC, Your Local Fire Department And You… “Adopt A Hydrant” Partnership

We at the MPWC have many obligations to our customers and work aggressively and tenaciously to provide the best water and the best service to all who rely on us. Most times, very little thought is given to our partnership with the local fire department that protects your families and your properties. Our obligation is to provide “needed fire flow” at each and every fire hydrant, 24/7, without deviation or compromise. Your firefighters rely on us and we stand with them when seconds count to insure your safety and welfare.

PREPARING FOR COLD WEATHER

Now is the time to begin preparing for the cold winter months!

Insulating or wrapping your hot water heater can make a significant savings in your energy bill. The water heater doesn’t have to work as hard when insulated, saving you money by avoiding premature replacement. Insulating wraps for water heaters can be found at any well stocked hardware store.

Be sure to turn off the water supply to any outside faucets or water lines, or to lines that run in unheated spaces. Water lines which must be kept “active” can be protected from bursting with inexpensive electrical tape. When temperatures drop, it warms the pipes. Make sure that the electrical tape is UL approved and install according to the directions.

And last but not least, disconnect, drain and store your garden hose to avoid winter weather damage.
