Community Input On Pennsauken’s 125th Anniversary Due January 13

Pennsauken Township is just a little over a month away from a very big birthday.

On February 18, 2017, our town will turn 125 years old. The Township, in conjunction with the Pennsauken Events Committee, is looking to plan a variety of events this year to mark this special occasion. And the help of residents and businesses is needed to make it happen.

The Township wants to hear about your ideas on how you think we should celebrate the 125th anniversary of Pennsauken. It’s everyone’s celebration. In order to do this properly, it needs to be a collaborative effort from every part of the Pennsauken community.

So if you think we should throw a birthday party with a really big cake, let us know. If you think we should put together a time capsule that won’t be opened until Pennsauken’s 150th anniversary, tell us. If we should invite back some of Pennsauken’s finest, who’ve gone on to win Super Bowls, help land a space rover on Mars, or become a prominent musician, shoot us a line. The only bad idea is the one not shared.

Some examples already shared are:

  • Highlighting Pennsauken’s historical progress through a public exhibit
  • A homecoming event, inviting resident from years’ past to return and engage in a community celebration
  • Having Pennsauken High School’s Double Dozen choir and band perform musical numbers from different decades at a special concert
  • Carnivals, dance parties, and more

There are three ways to share your ideas:

  1. E-mail your suggestions to aap@twp.pennsauken.nj.us.
  2. Visit the Township’s web site at twp.pennsauken.nj.us and use the online form.
  3. Fill out a paper form, available at both the front desk of the Municipal Building and the circulation department at the Pennsauken Free Public Library.

Art Show To Have 125th Anniversary Theme

As part of the Friends of the Pennsauken Free Public Library 10th annual Art Show and Sale this April, the organization would like to include art work with a Pennsauken theme in honor of the town’s 125th anniversary.

“While it’s not a requirement, it’s a nice jumping off point in case you can’t decide what to write, draw, paint, sketch, sculpt, or photograph,” says Arlene Miller, a member of the Friends of the Pennsauken Free Public Library. “Longtime Pennsauken residents have lots of memories to work with, while newer residents may see things in a whole new light. Regardless of the subject matter, we hope to get in a lot of interesting submissions.”

For more information on this year’s Art Show and Sale, which runs from April 23-30, visit the Pennsauken Free Public Library.

The deadline for community suggestions for the 125th anniversary is Friday, Jan.13. For questions or more information, e-mail aap@twp.pennsauken.nj.us.
