Ed Ramming Insurance Agency: Serving Community For Decades

Ed Ramming has lived in Pennsauken for all but six months of his 76 years. He’d joke that it feels like that he’s been in business that long too. But Ed still takes the insurance game seriously, working out the office attached to his home along Westfield Ave.

“We end up getting a lot of walk-ins; that’s a big part of the people that we help,” explains Ramming, who took over the family business in 1960 when his father, also Ed, passed away. “They feel comfortable enough to do that. It’s been that way for years.”

Caryn Hersch, an insurance agent who has worked with Ramming for a decade, talked about the large amount of generational customers the business has.

“We have a lot of family customers,” adds Hersch. “They come in and say, ‘My grandfather has a policy with you,’ or ‘My mom has a policy here.’”

The agency handles both commercial and personal lines of insurance. A lot of the business is auto insurance, as well as policies for properties that real estate investors are purchasing to rehab and resell. But regardless of what type of policy a person or business is looking for, both Ramming and Hersch stressed the importance of customer service.

“A lot of it is explaining the policy, letting people know what it actually covers,” says Hersch. “It’s taking the time to explain whether or not someone’s undercovered or overcovered. It’s knowing what you’re paying for.”

“If someone supplies information we need for a quote or provides a previous policy, we can take a look and see how we can help,” adds Ramming. “Sometimes you’re better off where you are; sometimes it’s better to make a change.”

Ed has no plans to retire any time soon. He looks forward to coming to the office and helping customers. It doesn’t hurt that commute consists of handful of steps.

“It’s great for snow days,” joked Ramming.
