Friday Night Lights Held On September 18 Versus Winslow

By Billy Wright, Pennsauken High School Athletic Director

The fourth edition of “Friday Night Lights” football is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 18, as the much improved Winslow Eagles will take on the home-standing PHS Indians. Pennsauken knocked off the Eagles last year at Winslow 7-0.

The night game is a big hit with both the students and community, as well over 2,000 Big Red supporters are usually in attendance. The Athletic Department will rent lights to conduct what is expected to be an exciting contest and extravaganza. The game is slotted for 7:00 p.m. at Vince McAneney Field. So mark your calendar and be a part of the Friday night under the lights experience.

Fall Season Right Around The Corner

Pennsauken Public Schools will start in early September, but the PHS student athletes have been busy all summer preparing for the Aug. 17 official NJSIAA fall opener. At the high school, the Pennsauken Board of Education sponsors football, boys and girls soccer, field hockey, boys and girls cross country, cheerleading, and girls volleyball. At Phifer Middle School, boys and girls soccer joins field hockey. All participants must have a signed parental form, as well as an updated physical. Information can be retrieved at the district website.

Free Sports Physicals

The Pennsauken Board of Education provides free sports physicals each August for both high school and middle school athletes. Physicals are scheduled for 8:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 17 at the high school nurse’s office. All athletes in sixth to 12th grade will receive physicals, first come, first served. A signed permission form and pre-participation health history and physical form are required. All forms can be picked up at the school office, at the nurse’s office, or can be downloaded from the school website at pennsauken.net.

All Sports Boosters Club Invites New Members

The All Sports Boosters Club will host parents, community members, alumni, and business leaders at their Sept. 8 meeting. Scheduled for 6:30 p.m. in the PHS library, club members are excited about recruiting new parents to assist in the numerous activities planned for the upcoming year. The membership fee is nominal and this is a great opportunity for parents to get involved in helping forge a positive experience for the over 550 Pennsauken student-athletes.

Advertising Opportunities Available In Football Program

With another school term successfully completed, the All Sports Boosters Club is gearing up for the fall 2015 season and supporting the ever exciting Big Red football. The team looks forward to another competitive season and a run at a possible league title. Large crowds are known to come out and support the Indians during the crisp fall weather. Local businesses can be a part of the excitement by purchasing an advertisement in the football game souvenir program. Ads are of different sizes and prices and are a great way to get the word out to a large community following. Information on securing an advertisement can be found at the sport button at Pennsauken.net or by contacting the PHS Athletic Department.

Varsity Club Looks Forward To Great Year

The PHS Varsity Club is a leadership training organization sponsored by the Athletic Department, with coaches Brandon Bond and Phil Zimmerman serving as advisors. To be eligible for membership, athletes must have earned a varsity letter, demonstrate good character, and maintain a 2.5 GPA. The club conducts fundraisers during the year and is also involved in community projects such as cooking at the Ronald McDonald House.

Invitation letters have been mailed out to all eligible PHS varsity letter winners encouraging club sign-up.
