Bike Ride Along Merchantville Rail Trail Held On June 17

The Pennsauken Environmental Commission and the Pennsauken Bike Share program are sponsoring a bike ride along the Merchantville Rail Trail on Saturday, June 17. Starting at 9:00 a.m. at the gazebo along the trail at Centre St. and Chestnut Ave., the ride showcases the Township’s Bike Share program, which allows adult residents to obtain bicycles for use throughout the year. The event will also highlight efforts to expand the current one-mile trail into Pennsauken in both directions.

Participants can bring their own bicycles or ride one of about 20 adult bikes made available by the Bike Share program for the day of the ride.

Bike sharing programs had their start in Europe in the 1960s and gained popularity in America in the mid-2000s. Bikes from Pennsauken’s Bike Share program are used bicycles donated by residents throughout Camden County that have been refurbished by volunteers of the Camden County Bike Share program in Cherry Hill.
