Open House, “Frost On The Pumpkin” This Month At Pennsauken’s Historic Homes

We hope that all residents were able to come out and enjoy the experience of living history at the Griffith Morgan House and Burrough-Dover House last month! October was history month in Camden County, and there were over 80 events hosted by the Camden County History Alliance.

History is just as plentiful in November at Pennsauken Historical Society! Our first Sunday open house will be held on Nov. 6 at Burrough-Dover House from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. The house will be opened for tours and historical conversations. There will also be activities for children that have a harvest theme.

We will be hosting our annual “Frost on the Pumpkin” event on Saturday, Nov. 19, at our Griffith Morgan House. From 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., guests will get to experience living history with demonstrations of old-time chores and activities. The house will be open for tours, and historical discussions as well!

October is History Month in Camden County! The Camden County History Alliance consists of over 40 different organizations. And during the month of October, these organizations, including the Pennsauken Historical Society, will be holding 70 different events!

“Frost On The Pumpkin” Event This Saturday

The Pennsauken Historical Society will open the Griffith Morgan on Saturday, Nov. 20, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., for our annual “Frost on the Pumpkin” event, where we celebrate the change of seasons from the bounty of the harvest to the long winter ahead. Our volunteers will be dressed in their historical outfits to make you feel as if you are living in the year 1710!

Swapping LEDs For Luminaries: A Historic Take On The Holidays In Pennsauken

On Friday, Dec. 6, starting at 6:00 p.m. in the evening, a holiday tradition returns to historic Burrough-Dover House off Haddonfield Rd. in Pennsauken, when St. Nick himself visits the old house which will be all decked out in holiday finery!

Pennsauken’s Historic Houses Bring Liberty Home On Independence Day Weekend

When the Continental Congress declared American independence in 1776, Pennsauken’s historic houses, Burrough-Dover House and Griffith Morgan House, were homes to families who would live that change in their own lives. In fact, for decades the Burrough and Morgan families had lived here as subjects of the British crown. Now, through the colonies’ struggle for independence, they would leave Britain behind and become truly American. What could be better for your Independence Day weekend than to visit the homes of these your neighbors and consider the lives of the farmers, servants, innkeepers, merchants and other ordinary people who lived in your community in those extraordinary times?

“Colonial Earth Day” Events Canceled For May 5, Open Houses Of Historic Homes Still Occurring

Because of the inclement weather forecast for this weekend, the “Colonial Earth Day” activities scheduled for Sunday, May 5, are canceled. However, both the historic Burrough-Dover House and Griffith Morgan House will be still be open to the public that day.

Paranormal Investigation Of Historic Homes Reported On April 7

On Sunday, April 7, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., both Burrough-Dover House and Griffith Morgan House in Pennsauken will be open to welcome the community for history and fun with tours, access to the museums and libraries of each house, hospitality, and something special! A very unusual program is planned at Griffith Morgan House, when the Pennsauken Historical Society welcomes the New Jersey Researchers of Paranormal Evidence to reveal the results of the first-ever investigation of Pennsauken’s two homes for history. Conducted simultaneously at both houses over two nights last year using sophisticated equipment, this investigation has gathered a variety of data for analysis and interpretation. Also, plans are being made to follow up with additional investigative opportunities for members of the public.
