Learning At The Pennsauken Free Public Library

There is so much going on at the Pennsauken Free Public Library and you can be a part of it!

This month, we will offer mini introductions to YouTube, which allows you video access to a vast array of tutorials, such as cutting hair, fixing plumbing, woodworking, dance steps, knitting, and more! Learning new tasks helps create new synapses in the brain which improves “brain fitness.” So come on out to the library to expand your learning experience and flex your brain! Mini Introductions to YouTube will take place on Fridays, Aug. 4, 11, 18, and 25 in 30-minute one-on-one sessions from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Space is limited to two persons per Friday, so call or come in to sign-up at the Reference Desk right away.

Pennsauken Library Working Through Air Conditioning Issues

Submitted By The Pennsauken Free Public Library

If you’ve visited the Pennsauken Free Public Library recently, you may have noticed it’s been a little… warm. That’s because the air conditioning system at the Library has failed.

For the last several weeks, the Township has been working on replacing the entire system, as well as installing new duct work to more effectively cool the Library. Since this is a municipal allocation of funds, the process takes longer than it would for a business or a residence. In the meantime, we’re doing what we can to make both patrons and staff as comfortable as possible until the new system is in and operational.

Currently, there are almost a dozen individual air conditioning units installed throughout the building in key areas. We are hoping these units will make things more comfortable inside the Library on hotter summer days. During times of extreme heat and humidity, the Library may have unexpected closures.

Residents are encouraged to call the Pennsauken Free Public Library at (856) 665-5959 before any visits on warmer days to ensure that the building is open. You can also visit the Pennsauken Free Public Library on Facebook for daily updates as well.

We apologize for any inconvenience this issue causes our patrons. Both the Library and the Township are doing everything possible to get things cooler as soon as possible.

Friends Of The Library In May: Mother’s Day, Museums, And Movies

By Arlene Miller, Friends of the Pennsauken Free Public Library

May has a lot more in store than the usual spring flowers we all look forward to. By now, the poems have been submitted for our annual poetry contest and judges are busy reading each one to decide the winners. Keep an eye out for a congratulatory letter if you’re one of the lucky ones, then make sure you’re free June 1 at 7:00 p.m. for our awards ceremony honoring all our winners. Good luck!

Just in time for gift giving, we’re holding another of our famous Friends’ cookie sales on Saturday, May 7 from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. or until the cookies run out. This is the day before Mother’s Day. What better gift than homemade cookies for that very important person? We plan on having a large selection to choose from, but be safe and get there early to make sure you have your pick. Once you’ve satisfied your sweet tooth – or your gift-giving responsibilities – check out the book exchange taking place that day in the Library, sponsored by the Merchantville Woman’s Club. Bring some books you’ve already read, and take home some you haven’t. Books and cookies: perfect together.

Friends Of The Library Art Show Runs April 17-24

By Arlene Miller, Friends of the Pennsauken Free Public Library

Even if April showers dampen your outside plans, all the activities lined up by the Friends of the Pennsauken Library will add lots of sunshine to your days. The Friends’ annual Art Show runs April 17-24. There’s still time to create something wonderful to register and display; you’ll find all the details in the Art Show brochure currently available at the Library’s lobby desk. During the Art Show, the Friends’ are sponsoring a variety of activities all week long. As space is limited, you’ll need to sign up at the Library’s circulation desk in advance; and except for that Monday’s children’s workshop, all children be at least 10 years of age or older and accompanied by a responsible adult for the entire session.
