Pennsauken Veteran Highlighted On PBS

Longtime Delair resident Edward Hill is one of four World War II veterans featured in the premier episode of “Here’s The Story” on PBS.

The documentary takes viewers on a journey across the state of New Jersey, where the “Here’s The Story” met with these remarkable individuals. Their stories not only shed light on the harrowing experiences of war, but also offer a window into their upbringing, shaping the lens through which they experienced one of the most pivotal periods in history.

Stephen Mucha Passes Away At 102

Longtime Pennsauken resident Stephen Mucha passed away on October 18, 2023, at the amazing age of 102. Often seen at the Pennsauken Municipal Pool performing with his wife, Carol Ann Copper, the veteran and devoted family man left an indelible mark on his community.

On Memorial Day, we come together as a community to honor and remember the courageous men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Busch, III, John S. DiBenedetto, Michael Egan, James M. Esposito, Matthew J. Henkel Jr., Joseph L. Hesson, III, Frank J. Kohlmyer, Thomas C Miller, Maria I. Ortiz, Richard Patterson, Elmer R. Pease, Jr., Anthony Piersanti, Jr., Harold Russo, and John Edward Tipton.

Memorial Day Events To Be Held Throughout Pennsauken

Community events leading up through Memorial Day remember those brave men and women who gave the ultimate sacrifice in service to their country.

Wreath Laying Ceremonies

Several wreath laying ceremonies in observance of those members of the military who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces will be held throughout Memorial Day Weekend in both Pennsauken and Merchantville. The public is encouraged to attend these events.

AMVETS Yard And Hoagie Sale On April 15

AMVETS Post 101, 519 June Rd., Delair, is holding a yard and hoagie sale on Saturday, April 15, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Attendees can choose from American, ham and cheese, tuna, or turkey hoagies for $7 each until supplies run out.

Crafters are welcome and can rent a table for just $10. Tables can be reserved at (856) 663-8950 between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. daily.

American Legion Meetings On March 9

F.W. Grigg Post 68 American Legion will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday, March 9, 7:00 p.m., at the Merchantville Community Center, 212 Somerset Ave.

The American Legion was chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic veteran’s organization devoted to mutual helpfulness. With the recent passage of the “Legion Act”, eligibility for membership in the American Legon has been expanded to include those who served honorably during the periods April 6, 1917, to Nov. 11, 1918, and Dec. 7, 1941 to a time later determined by the federal government.

The Post Auxiliary Unit also meets at 7:00 p.m. on the same night and location. Any spouse, whether male or female, of a veteran who is an American Legion member, or the daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, or granddaughter of a veteran are welcome to join.

AMVETS Yard Sale On June 11

AMVETS Post 101, located at 519 June Rd. in the Delair section of Pennsauken, is hosting a community yard sale on Saturday, June 11, from 7:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Tables are $20 a person, $15 for veterans. Interested parties can call (856) 663-8950, Monday through Friday, noon to 4:00 p.m., to reserve a table.

Pennsauken is honoring those in our community that served our country in the armed forces as part of Veterans Day.

Veterans Benefits Administration Hosts Tele-Town Hall

The Veterans Benefits Administration will be hosting a tele-town hall today, April 7, at 4:00 p.m. to provide the latest benefits updates to veterans and to maintain an open line of communication.

The event will feature remarks from Under Secretary for Benefits Paul Lawrence, as well as answers to questions from actual veterans in our community.

“With federal stimulus efforts and a host of measures intended to mitigate the effects of the coronavirus pandemic, it is important for veterans to understand how their benefits will or will not be impacted,” said Freeholder Melinda Kane, liaison to the Office of Veterans Affairs. “If you have any questions about your benefits as a veteran, you are encouraged to call in at 4 p.m. or submit questions in advance of the event.”

Participants are encouraged to dial in ten minutes prior to 4:00 p.m. at 844-227-7557. Some questions will be asked live during the call, however participants may also submit questions in advance on the LinkedIn page of Under Secretary Lawrence.
