Web Site Raises Awareness About Drunk Driving In New Jersey

The Pennsauken Police Department is helping to further awareness about the issue of drunk driving in New Jersey through their support of an online resource called the New Jersey Open Data Project – Stay Sober NJ. The initiative, created by law firm Davis, Saperstein & Salomon, P.C., and spearheaded by partner Steven Benvenisti, who was nearly killed by a drunk driver in college, compiles nine years worth of open source data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s FARS database, from 2005-2013.

The Stay Sober NJ web site states, “We believe New Jersey residents would be as motivated as we are if they knew the scope of the impaired driving problem in our state.”

Data on Stay Sober NJ includes all of the fatal alcohol-related crashes that occurred in New Jersey from 2005-2013; a comparison of impaired driving crashes by age and gender; the highest amount of crashes by day of the week/time of day; and more.

“After reviewing this data, we hope you are inspired to sign our pledge and make your own personal commitment to preventing drunk driving. We ask you to share this resource as well. After all, we can all do our part!”
