Pennsauken School District Launches Facebook Page

As social media takes on a more prominent role in our society, the Pennsauken School District has looked into increasing its social media presence over the last few years. While there is currently no district-wide social media page, several departments have used social media to highlight Pennsauken students and their accomplishments. A perfect example is our high school’s athletic department, headed by Eric Mossop. You can find Pennsauken Athletics on both Facebook and Twitter.

Doing Our Part To Keep Pennsauken Litter Free

As I write this column, we are basking in 70 degree temperatures and our plants are starting to bud. Even if we get another blast of winter, our thoughts turn to spring. We are almost there!
I know when I think of spring, I feel it in my bones and I want to spring clean: open the windows, clean the car, and turn my winter yard into a spring one.
Looking around my yard, I see I have some work to do. Do I go back in and pretend I didn’t see the mess? Or do I set to the task? I know I will feel better if I clean up the yard, both in my body and my mind. I will get some exercise and I will appreciate the beauty as it unfolds. Sitting on my porch in the evening, I will feel good. When the space around us looks better, we can’t help but feel better.
Noticing how good I feel after I have cleaned up my yard, I also notice how bad I feel when I see litter on our highways, along our streets, in front of our stores, and in our yards. All trash is not litter. Litter is trash not put in the right place. I think we can work together to deal with this issue.

State Senate President Sweeney Visits Pennsauken High School

On Feb. 7, New Jersey Senate President Stephen M. Sweeney toured Pennsauken High School and sat down to talk with students. During his visit, Sweeney, who grew up in Pennsauken and went to school at PHS, spoke of the importance of supporting initiatives that fairly fund education throughout the state.
Library Holds Resume Workshop On March 22
The Pennsauken Free Public Library is holding a résumé workshop on Wednesday, March 22 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. in the Community Room. Hosted by Career Strategies, job seekers will gain tips on building a strong résumé; learn how to make your résumé stand out; and create a document that truly represents your work experience and strengths to potential employers.
Those wishing to attend the workshop are asked to sign up in advance at the Library’s reference desk. Attendees should bring a hard copy of their résumé.

Philadelphia Flower Show Gives A Dose Of Spring Fever

As I write this month’s column, I am recovering from the worst case of the flu I have had in recent memory. Three weeks of coughing, sneezing, and other discomforts have left me tired, weak, and grumpy. Now that I am finally starting to feel a bit better, a different kind of fever begins to creep into my soul: spring fever. My gardening tools have been cleaned, oiled, and sharpened; seeds have been started. I am impatient to get back outside, bask in the sun, breathe the fresh air.
Even though spring isn’t quite here yet, we can get a taste of things to come. This month, the Philadelphia Convention Center will be overtaken by nurseries, men, women, and gardeners of all ages who will transform it into a gardener’s paradise. This year, the Flower Show is being held Saturday, March 11 through Sunday, March 19. This year’s show, titled “Holland: Flowering the World,” celebrates the flowers, art, culture and landscape architecture of this region.
