The Camden County Department of Health is continuing to closely monitor reports and guidance regarding the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the New Jersey Department of Health. While there are currently no confirmed cases of coronavirus in New Jersey, public health officials are urging members of the public to begin preparing for the possibility of a broader outbreak in the United States.

Camden County Technical Schools Certified As State Schools Of Character

The Gloucester Township and Pennsauken campuses of Camden County Technical Schools (CCTS) have been awarded the prestigious distinction as 2020 New Jersey Schools of Character (NJSOC). The NJSOC recognition program is sponsored by the New Jersey Alliance for Social, Emotional and Character Development, which includes the Character Education Partnership (CEP), the New Jersey Department of Education, and the Center for Social and Character Development at Rutgers University.

Cherishing A Very Special Phone Call

It was early December of last year. I was getting into my car, rushing to my next appointment, when I noticed I had a voicemail. It was from Rick Taylor. He’d occasionally give me a call to let me know that he just finished reading the newest issue of All Around Pennsauken and shared with me how much he enjoyed it. Seeing I just missed it, I gave him a quick call back. It was a brief call, but it was very good to hear his voice. He reiterated his message. I thanked him for his kind words and let him know that coming from him, it was high praise. I told him that his thoughtfulness meant a lot to me.

It would be the last time we talked before his passing.

Public Servant, Educator, Pennsauken Proud: Rick Taylor Passes Away

Rick Taylor, longtime Pennsauken resident, public servant, and educator, died last month after battling a prolonged illness. He was 73.

Upon news of his passing, many of his former colleagues and friends took an opportunity to share what Taylor meant to them.

“Rick was a pillar of Pennsauken for many decades, from his impact as an educator to his efforts in public service,” said Mayor Tim Killion. “He was a fair, caring person who was thoroughly involved in his community. He truly touched people’s lives.”

Pennsauken Township Committee Holds 2020 Reorganization Meeting

On Jan. 3, Pennsauken’s Township Committee gathered for its reorganization meeting, setting up the municipal government for 2020. While the swearing in of the town’s mayor, deputy mayor, committee members, and the approval of municipal appointments is an annual occurrence, this year’s meeting had a different feel, with several fresh voices now in charge of steering Pennsauken Township into a brand new decade.
