Bladder Cancer Walk Held At Cooper River Park On May 7
AMP UP! Move to End Bladder Cancer is a movement happening across the country during the month May, which is National Bladder Cancer Awareness Month. Locally, AMP UP! Pennsauken is hosting a Bladder Cancer Walk on Saturday, May 7 at Cooper River Park. The walk is dedicated to Robert Collins, Sr., who lost his battle with bladder cancer in 2007, as well as to others who have passed away from or have been diagnosed with this disease.
The walk will take place near Jack Curtis Stadium, located on North Park Dr. Registration runs from 8:00 to 8:30 a.m.; the opening ceremony will be held from 8:35 to 8:50 a.m.; and the 3.8 mile walk starts at 9:00 a.m.
Bladder cancer is the sixth most commonly diagnosed cancer. Approximately 500,000 people are currently living with bladder cancer in the United States; 75,000 will be newly diagnosed this year and an estimated 16,000 will not survive the disease. Proceeds from this walk benefit the Bladder Cancer Advocacy Network and will go to research, educational and patient support programs.
