Pennsauken native Mike Niessen grew up in the Delair section of town and is a member of Pennsauken High School’s graduating class of 1993. He just celebrated his 42 birthday in the ICU, where he’s currently fighting for his life.
On March 10, Niessen was involved in a deadly, six-car accident that took the life of his longtime partner and fiancée, Danielle Allen, whom he planned to marry next month. According to his brother-in-law Chris DePietropolo, family and friends are unsure what Mike knows regarding the accident.
“His injuries are severe and at this moment we don’t know what their future holds as far as recovery,” says DePietropolo.
Together, Mike and Danielle were raising five children, who are currently being cared for by their grandparents. Danielle’s funeral is this Saturday; and Mike, who remains in critical condition, faces a variety of uphill medical challenges. To help defray the variety of funeral costs, medical expenses and more, a GoFundMe page has been setup in Danielle’s memory.
“If we reach or exceed our goal, any proceeds over the cost of funeral expenses will go to the family to help cover medical expenses for her fiancĂ©, who is still in the hospital in critical condition,” writes Keith Allen, Danielle’s brother. “He will need several surgeries over the coming days and months of recovery (if not years).
“We are asking if in the kindness of your heart you can donate anything, please do. Every dollar helps, no matter how big or small.”
