PEA Holds Second Annual MLK Day Of Service Event
On Monday, Jan. 21, the Pennsauken Education Association (PEA) will host its second annual Dr. Martin Luther King Day of Service event for the Pennsauken Community.
The National MLK Day of Service is intended to empower individuals, strengthen communities, bridge barriers, create solutions to social problems, and move us closer to Dr. King’s vision of a “beloved community.” To honor this mission, students, teachers, and staff from all nine schools in the district have been collecting various toiletry items since December for the day of service event.
Held at Howard M. Phifer Middle School, 8201 Park Ave., volunteers will come together during the MLK Day of Service to create care packages for the creation of “blessing bags” for Angels in Motion, an organization that assists individuals who are combating addiction by treating each person as individuals and offering them genuine compassion and understanding. Angels in Motion also provide “blessing bags,” which contain food, snacks, clothing, hygiene products, and resource information for people struggling with addiction to obtain help when they are ready.
This event will begin promptly at 11:00 a.m. and end at 1:00 p.m., with volunteers being served lunch.
The PEA MLK Day of Service event is one of many PRIDE in Public Education activities to be carried out by the Pennsauken Education Association this year.
