Pennsauken Township is preparing to hold its second annual Autism Awareness Expo, a special event designed to support and empower families with special needs. Held on Wednesday, April 23, this event will take place at Eden Gardens (formerly The Regal), 1444 Rt. 73, Pennsauken, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Open to the public, this event aims to shine a light on the challenges faced by individuals with special needs, like autism spectrum disorder, and their families. It also serves as a platform to showcase the various resources available to support these families in their journey.

“Whether you have a family member newly diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder or have been helping a loved one with special needs for several years, it can be difficult to know what resources are available to help,” said Deputy Mayor Jessica Rafeh, whose daughter, Karina, has autism. “We hope that our annual Autism Awareness Expo will assist families and point them in the right direction.”
Over a dozen organizations will be on site, providing information about their services and programs tailored to meet the unique needs of special needs families, including:
- Autism Speaks
- Build Jake’s Place
- CHOP
- Creative Change
- Dentistry for Special People
- Focus on Us
- Focused Approach
- Interactive Kids
- NeurAbilities Healthcare
- Partners for Successful Living
- Pathway into the Community
- Pennsauken Fire Department
- Pennsauken Police Department
- Pennsauken School District
- Reisman Gran Zuba LLP
- Rowan University Center for Neurodiversity
- Special Olympics New Jersey
- SPWA Services
- The Cooperative
- Weisman Children’s
In addition, guest speakers will share insights, experiences, and valuable information on navigating the challenges these families face on a daily basis.

“Families who care for those with special needs know how important it is to foster a community that promotes acceptance, inclusion, and understanding,” added Deputy Mayor Rafeh. “It is the hope of the entire Township Committee and Pennsauken’s administration that our Autism Awareness Expo helps to make our home more of a place that is welcoming and accommodating to those of all abilities.” For more information regarding this event, contact Juan Vazquez at (856) 665-1000 x151 or jvazquez@pennsauken.gov.
