Hello fellow seniors.

  • Mental health screening, as well as assessment or treatment activities aimed at improving maintaining mental health.
  • Identifying and understanding mental and emotional needs of seniors and disabled individuals.
  • Securing necessary medical, preventative and/or mental health services.

This program operates in partnership with the Camden County Board of Freeholders, Department of Health and Human Services – Division of Senior Services ADRC. For more information, please call Margaret Melton or Janessa Baker at (856) 365-7393.

Beat The Heat

Seniors are more susceptible to heat related issues, such as heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Here are a few tips to help you stay cool during the hot August days.

  • Keep the air flowing, whether you use fans and open windows to get that cooling cross breeze or turn on the air conditioner.
  • When headed outdoors, be sure to wear light clothing made of natural fabrics like cotton. Stick to the shade when possible and avoid being out during the hottest parts of the day, particularly when doing yard work.
  • Drink water! Stay hydrated with at least two glasses of water per day on those really hot days. Try to avoid drinking coffee, soda and alcohol, as this can speed up dehydration.
  • Hit the pool. Swimming is a great way to both exercise and cool off during the summer months. If you can’t get to a pool, try a cool bath or shower to beat the heat.
  • Some heart and blood pressure medication can affect the body’s ability to regulate temperature or perspire, which can cause issues on really hot days. If you’re not sure, check with your doctor.
  • If it gets too hot, head out to the Mall or Pennsauken’s Library and enjoy the AC!

Wishing you good health and happiness. Say a special prayer for the brave men and women serving our country.
