You Know The Song… I’m Coming To Town
By Jolly Old Saint Nicholas, AKA Santa Claus
Ho! Ho! Ho! It’s that most wonderful time of the year, where children of all ages have visions of sugar plums dancing in their heads. Families all over are getting ready for my arrival, trimming the tree, hanging stockings with care, and baking cookies for that magical night of the year. My elves and I are working at top speed, prepping the sleigh, getting the reindeer ready to fly, and making that famous list of mine everyone keeps talking about. And yes, I do check it twice.
A Milestone Birthday For The “Other” Frank Sinatra
By Frank Sinatra, AAP Editor
Apparently, some singer would be 100 today. His name’s familiar; I just can’t put my finger on it…
Unless you’re a square, or have been swingin’ in a cave, the world is celebrating the Centennial of the Chairman of the Board. The “real” Frank Sinatra was born on December 12, 1915. And that skinny mama’s boy from Hoboken went on to have quite a life. Google his name and you’ll get about 46,300,000 results in .68 seconds. “Ol’ Blue Eyes” sold more than 150 million records worldwide; he won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in “From Here to Eternity;” and won 11 Grammys throughout his career. That is the life’s work of a cultural icon.
Organic Or Synthetic Plant Food: Is There A Difference?
By Kathleen Harvey, Owner, Plant Artistry, LLC
It’s time to prepare the flower beds for winter. What materials are best for the soil to prepare it for new plants in the spring? A debate is currently trending about which is better mulch: straw or hay? They may look similar, but they’re actually quite different.
Food Adventures: Mary’s Mobile Diner Returns Home
A few years back, All Around Pennsauken highlighted Mary’s Mobile Meals, a small food truck located along River Rd. Shortly thereafter, the truck, run by longtime Pennsauken resident Mary Hilbert, hit the road and moved to the Spring Garden section of Philadelphia for several years, then spent some time in Cherry Hill. Now, Hilbert has upgraded to a larger food truck, went gourmet, changed the name of the business to Mary’s Mobile Diner, and came back to town, this time for good.
Falling Leaves: To Bag Or Not To Bag?
By Joe Scavuzzo, Director, Department of Public Works
At the end of my October article, I asked if the dry weather of summer and September would continue into a dry fall, causing leaves to fall early. Hurricane Joaquin answered that question pretty thoroughly! With the news showing devastating flooding down the Jersey Shore and down the East Coast, Pennsauken was spared major damage. There were a couple calls for fallen trees in streets over that weekend, but nothing compared to that storm on June 23 of this year.
Focusing On Things To Be Truly Thankful For
By Judith Kristen, AAP Columnist
Not that you can tell, but I wrote this column a day late and a dollar short. But, my ever-wonderful boss and friend, Frank Sinatra, understands why, and so here it is – and my extended deadline was yet another thing for me to be thankful for in this month of giving thanks.
Too Many Ideas Wandering Through A Busy Mind
I am frequently faced with scratching out a column, due in minutes. I sit, staring at a blank page, and nothing comes popping out. Not so this month! I am forced to reign in my enthusiasm and try desperately to separate the cascading thoughts pouring out of my feverish brain.
Skeletal Discoveries At Griffith Morgan House
By Robert Fisher-Hughes, AAP Columnist and Amateur Historian
Five years after Pennsauken Township was created, a macabre mystery was literally unearthed at our own historic Griffith Morgan House, situated in the community known then as Morris Station. Evanescent as a specter, what was then revealed is subject only to theory and imagination.
Organic Or Synthetic Plant Food: Is There A Difference?
By Kathleen Harvey, Owner, Plant Artistry, LLC
When I first met my honey and saw his houseplants, they were sickly things sitting in the corner and on windowsills, desperately trying to survive. I asked him, “What are you feeding those poor plants?” His response: “Food? Am I supposed to share my dinner with them?” His answer, though a bit comical, was not uncommon.
