Welsh Heritage Day At Griffith Morgan Homestead On March 3

Pennsauken Historical Society opens its new year of history with the annual celebration of the Morgan family homeland of Wales at Griffith Morgan Homestead with music, food, and fun for the whole family.

Welsh cuisine will be cooked fresh from the hearth during Pennsauken Historical Society’s annual celebration of the Griffith Morgan family’s homeland on March 3.

Camden County To Hold Public Meeting For Green Acres Grant Application

PUBLIC NOTICE

PURPOSE: The County of Camden is seeking funding through the State of NJ Urban Parks Program and the Green Acres Program Application for improvements at Cooper River Playground located at 5300 N Park Dr, Pennsauken Township, NJ 08109 (Block 6304, Lot 1).

PROJECT SCOPE: The County of Camden proposes to restore and expand the following facilities at Cooper River Playground: upgrades to the playground and fitness equipment. A concept plan showing the proposed changes and a preliminary cost estimate can be found on the Camden County website linked at: https://www.camdencounty.com/public-notices/ 

PEA Collecting Donations For MLK Day Of Service

The Pennsauken Education Association is hosting its sixth annual Dr. Martin Luther King Day of Service event for the Pennsauken community.

Community members, teachers, and school staff can drop off the materials for the care packages for Angels in Motion, an organization that assists individuals who are combating addiction by treating each person as individuals, offering genuine compassion, and understanding, and providing “blessing bags,” which contain food, snacks, clothing, hygiene products and resource information to obtain help when they are ready.

Drop off will be on Monday, Jan. 15, at Pennsauken High School, 800 Hylton Rd., from 10:00 a.m. to noon. During that time, student volunteers will be putting together bags using the donations received. A token of appreciation will be given to families who complete a bag on behalf of PEA Pride upon drop-off. To register your donations, please complete the PEA’s Sign Up Genius Form.

“Battle Of The Badges” Blood Drive On January 18

Pennsauken’s first responders will once again complete to see who can recruit the most eligible blood donors in the community during an American Red Cross Battle of the Badges blood drive on Thursday, Jan. 18, 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the Pennsauken Country Club, 3800 Haddonfield Rd.

Presenting donors will have the opportunity to cast a vote for Pennsauken’s police or fire departments, with the winning agency earning a plaque and bragging rights; they will also receive a free Red Cross t-shirt while supplies last.

Township To Hold Public Hearing On December 21

Pennsauken’s municipal government announced that there will be public hearing during the Township Committee meeting on Thursday, Dec. 21, 6:00 p.m. as part of the application process for a Green Acres grant for improvements to the playground and park currently on the grounds adjacent to the Pennsauken Free Public Library.

“Pennsauken Township proposes to create the following new facility at the former Central School Park site to construct an all-inclusive playground. The project name will be: Welcome Home Jake’s Place,” the Township posted in an online statement.

The Township also shared several renderings of the proposed enhancements: 

The public hearing portion of the Dec. 21 meeting will be held in person at the Pennsauken Township Municipal Buidling, 5605 N. Crescent Blvd. For those unable to attend the Dec. 21 meeting, but would like to share their thoughts on the project, a brief survey can be taken online.

Fire Department Escorts Santa Through Town December 9

The Pennsauken Fire Department is ready to launch “Operation Santa” for the holidays. Starting at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 9, Santa Claus, escorted by the Pennsauken Township Fire Department, will visit every neighborhood in Pennsauken in a single day. Residents are asked to listen for the sirens and air horns from the Fire Department apparatus as Santa is driven around town.

Pennsauken Tree Lighting On December 6

For the fourth year in a row, Pennsauken’s municipal complex will be aglow during the town’s Holiday Tree Lighting. Held on Wednesday, Dec. 6, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., residents will be able to stroll through a holiday light display at the Township’s Municipal Building Complex, 5605 N. Crescent Blvd.

Holiday Season In Pennsauken Begins With Parade, Family Events

Pennsauken Township is ready to kick off the most festive time of the year. Residents can look forward to Pennsauken’s Holiday Parade, several community events, and the town’s annual initiative to help those in need during the holidays.

Pennsauken’s Fall Festival On November 4

Heavy rainfall in October caused Township officials to move Pennsauken’s annual Fall Festival to Saturday, Nov. 4, with a new rain date of Sunday, Nov. 5.

“We had a lot of rain last month, particularly on the weekends. For the safety of staff and participants, we’ve moved our Fall Festival to the first Saturday in November,” said Pennsauken Mayor Vince Martinez. “We certainly hope that Mother Nature is more cooperative, and we get a sunny, seasonable day for this great community event.”
