Historic Flag Day Celebration Held On June 17

On Saturday, June 17, from noon to 4:00 p.m., historic Burrough-Dover House, located at 9201 Burrough-Dover Lane off of Haddonfield Rd., will hold its traditional commemoration of Flag Day. A variety of historic flags will be on display; and guided tours and related festivities will pay tribute to Old Glory and highlight the wide range of banners that symbolize our story as a nation and people. Admission and parking are free.

And don’t forget: both the Burrough-Dover House and Griffith Morgan House, which is located at 243 Griffith Morgan Lane off River Rd., will also be open to the public for an Independence Day celebration on Sunday, July 2 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. What could be more patriotic than a visit to our colonial past?

Both houses will be open for free guided tours and the lovely grounds of both sites are perfect for a picnic and outdoor play. Plenty of free parking is available at both houses.

Pennsauken Environmental Commission Hosts Bike And Train Ride On June 10

Did you know that several trail networks, including the Circuit Trails, East Coast Greenway, and Delaware River Heritage Trail, are all planned to run through Pennsauken Township?

The Pennsauken Environmental Commission, in partnership with New Jersey Conservation Foundation, invites all residents and their families to a Circuit Trails/East Coast Greenway Bike and Ride event on Saturday, June 10 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Environmental professionals and volunteers will showcase the on-road and off-road, existing and planned, trail segments that run throughout Pennsauken.

Pennsauken Schools Hold Alex’s Lemonade Stands On June 9

Two elementary schools in Pennsauken will be raising funds on Friday, June 9, to help fight pediatric cancer.

Both Benjamin Franklin, 7201 Irving Ave., and Longfellow Elementary, 1400 Forrest Ave., will each be hosting an Alex’s Lemonade Stand Friday morning. Longfellow’s stand will run from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m.; Franklin’s stand will run from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Funds raised from both events benefit Alex’s Lemonade Stand, a non-profit that raises money and awareness of childhood cancer causes, primarily research into new treatments and cures, and  encourages and empowers others – especially children – to get involved and make a difference for children with cancer.

Special Presentation And Panel Tackled The Issue Of Opioids And Heroin Abuse

A special presentation last month at Camden Catholic High School drew attention to the serious issue of prescription opioids and heroin abuse. The free program and forum was sponsored by the Diocese of Camden, Discovery Ministries, Inc., and Catholic Charities, and had the support of numerous local groups, including Pennsauken Township’s municipal government, the Pennsauken Board of Education, and the Pennsauken Police Department.

Michelle Bello Receives $1,500 Scholarship

The 2017 Scholarship Program provided $11,500 worth of scholarships to eight graduating high school seniors who have a parent actively serving, or they themselves are actively serving Camden County in a branch of police/law enforcement, fire service (paid and volunteer), or emergency medical service.

Congratulations To Our Championship Students

Pennsauken schools have a long history of excellence in music and the arts. That continued to be the case at the 2017 Atlantic Coast Championships, held in Wildwood, N.J. last month.

The Championships are sponsored by the Tournament Indoor Association (TIA), one of the largest competitive organizations for performing arts in the nation. Pennsauken’s Independent Drumline and Color Guard, as well the Middle School Color Guard, went up against talented performers from all across New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware.

Pennsauken Lions Hold Pampered Chef Fundraiser

If you love to cook, and especially love new and interesting kitchen gadgets to make cooking more fun, the Pennsauken Lions Club has an event for you!

The Lions will be hosting a Pampered Chef demonstration on Monday, June 12, 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., at Macaro’s Catering, Westfield Ave. in Pennsauken. Attendees can find unique, easy-to-use kitchen products that make cooking fun, including cooking tools, bakeware, stoneware, and more. Many items are under $10!

National Learn-To-Row Day Held On June 3

As part of USRowing’s 16th annual National Learn-to-Row Day, the Cooper Rowing Club is hosting a fun, free introduction to rowing on the water on Saturday, June 3 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Camden County Boathouse, 7050 N Park Dr., Pennsauken.

Learn the basics of rowing, with lessons both on and off the water, in a relaxed and safe atmosphere. This free event is open to individuals ages 12 and up. Those under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent. No experience is necessary to come enjoy the outdoors!
