Pennsauken Native Nominated As State Comptroller

Pennsauken native and Merchantville resident Kevin D. Walsh, Esq. was nominated by Governor Phil Murphy to serve as the fourth New Jersey State Comptroller. Walsh’s nomination is subject to advice and consent by the Senate and is for a six-year term. He will begin serving as Acting Comptroller on Monday, Jan. 27.

Pennsauken’s McFarland To Receive Camden County Freedom Medal

Pennsauken resident Mary Anne McFarland is among 14 Camden County residents being honored for their selfless contributions to improving their community at the 2020 Camden County Freedom Medal Ceremony. The award, created by the Freeholder Board in 2001, is presented to civic leaders who demonstrate the ideals and actions that reflect the principles of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Pennsauken native Larry Litwin is among 12 athletes, representing nine area high schools, that the Freeholder Board will be inducting into the Camden County Hall of Fame, during an event held tonight at the Collingswood Ballroom.

Easterseals New Jersey Honors Sweeney With 2019 Good Samaritan Award

Easterseals New Jersey, the state’s largest disability services provider, and their Raritan Valley Work Center Advisory Board have presented Pennsauken native Senator Stephen M. Sweeney with the esteemed Good Samaritan Award. The award was presented at the annual Raritan Valley Work Center Dinner at the Pines Manor in Edison, New Jersey. Senator Sweeney was recognized for his career-long commitment to the betterment of New Jerseyans with intellectual disabilities and special needs. His support has focused in large part on vocational rehabilitation opportunities, ensuring that people with special needs and disabilities across the state receive the best care and access to opportunities possible. The gala event took place during National Disability Employment Awareness Month, a key time to shine a spotlight on the potential and lingering needs of people with disabilities.

Juan Vazquez, an EMT for Pennsauken EMS, has lived in town for almost two decades. A member of Pennsauken High School’s Class of 2004, he married his high school sweetheart, Kelly, and has two boys, ages 10 and 1.

He’s also in need of a kidney transplant.

Pennsauken Resident Strives To Be Miss New Jersey USA

Ever since she was little, Felisha Nation has had aspirations of competing in the Miss New Jersey USA pageant. In fact, the 21 year old has been selected from hundreds of applicants as a state finalist for the competition, held in Atlantic City this November. But in order to make her dream happen, the Pennsauken resident needs some help.

John M. Korinthios, age 80 of Pennsauken, passed away on May 24.

John was the beloved husband of Toula (nee Horiates); devoted father of Michael (Christina) Korinthios and Angeliki (Denny) Kokolis, both of Cherry Hill; loving grandfather of John, Antonio, John, Chris and Cyrena; dear brother of Alexandros “Alekos”, Fragkiskos “Franz,” and Yiakoumina “Mina,” all of Greece. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, sister in laws, and brother in laws.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Friday, 7:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. and Saturday 10:00 a.m.- 11:00 a.m., at St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church, 675 Cooperlanding Rd. Cherry Hill, followed by funeral services at 11:00 a.m. Interment is at Locustwood Memorial Park, Cherry Hill. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, P.O. Box 781352 Philadelphia, PA 19178-1352 or St. Michael’s Ukrainian Catholic Church.
