Each year, the Board of Education is required to hold a reorganization meeting by the seventh day of January. During this meeting, newly elected board members are installed and the Board chooses its president and vice president. This year’s meeting was held on Jan. 5. In conjunction with this reorganization meeting, we wanted to introduce the members of the newly seated Pennsauken Board of Education, each of whom will be working together to continue making Pennsauken schools successful.

The Importance Of Communication In A Digital Age

It is no secret that social media is changing the way we communicate and interact with others, as well as the way we all learn. Facebook, Instagram, texting, e-mailing, tweeting, and blogs have become an essential part of the way we communicate in our daily life. In fact, one study conducted at the University of California at Berkeley found that social media’s constant and almost instantaneous communication provides an opportunity to improve social skills, helps to develop technology-based skills, and creates new forms of self-expression.

Pennsauken School Board Members Get Educated

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” The words of former South African President Nelson Mandela could not be truer, especially to a school board member. Board members clearly value education, not only for the students in the districts that they serve, but also for themselves. After all, education is a lifelong quest!

Pennsauken School Board Members Receive Award

Two members of the Pennsauken Board of Education were recently recognized for their work in the District and commitment to students.

At a special ceremony held on Oct. 28, Pennsauken Board of Education President Nicholas Perry was presented with the Urban School Boards’ Board President Award; and Board Vice President Dung Nguyen received the Urban School Board’s Board Vice President Award.

Sponsored by the South Jersey African American Chamber of Commerce, the Urban School Boards Reception honors and recognizes the hard work and commitment of individuals dedicated to improving the education through their work on various school boards throughout the region.

“We understand the many hours these individuals give to insure that all of our children who attend our urban schools are represented and given the best education that can be afforded to them,” says Curtis M. Lackland, CBC, president, South Jersey African American Chamber of Commerce.

“Both Dung and myself are humbled and honored to accept these awards,” says Perry. “While we were individually recognized, it truly takes a team effort to realize the District’s goal of success for all students.

“Personally, I would like to thank all of my fellow board members for their hard work: Dung Nguyen, who in addition to his role as vice president, serves as chair of the education committee; Armando Diaz, a member of both the education and finance committees; Meg Snyder, chair of the Board’s policy committee; Allyson Meloni, chair of the communications committee; Diane Johnson, for her commitment to students through her exploration of ROTC programming; and to JoAnn Young, for her support during this past year. Special thanks also go to our central administrative team for their support of the Board’s goals and mission.”
