A few years back, All Around Pennsauken highlighted Mary’s Mobile Meals, a small food truck located along River Rd. Shortly thereafter, the truck, run by longtime Pennsauken resident Mary Hilbert, hit the road and moved to the Spring Garden section of Philadelphia for several years, then spent some time in Cherry Hill. Now, Hilbert has upgraded to a larger food truck, went gourmet, changed the name of the business to Mary’s Mobile Diner, and came back to town, this time for good.
“We’re excited to be back,” says Hilbert. “It’s good to be home.”
Mary describes the food truck as a “retro diner on wheels,” complete with a 50s feel and oldies music. Mary’s Mobile Diner serves both breakfast and lunch from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. And the fare is a far cry from traditional food truck fare.
“All the food is done fresh,” says Hilbert. “Nothing’s out of a box.”
The only thing that is out of the box is the menu selections, from breakfast wraps with fried potatoes and grilled eggplant parmesan. During our visit, we had a steak quesadilla that had the perfect balance of flavor and heat. Even the chips are made from scratch. “It’s old school food everybody knows that’s done fresh.”
And while the food is higher end, the prices aren’t. Most meals are around $5 or $6.
Patrons can call ahead to have their orders ready when they arrive. Mary also does catering out of the food truck or can do it in-house at a private residence or hall. In addition, Mary’s Mobile Diner participates in a variety of public events and fundraisers, such as the Merchantville Farmer’s Market, the Camden Blacklight Run, and Westville Fall Festival. “We take the truck out to a lot of events and we donate back to fundraisers.”
Mary’s Mobile Diner’s daily location is at 6915 River Rd. in Pennsauken. They are open Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. To order by phone, call (856) 840-3660. For more information, visit Mary’s Mobile Diner on Facebook.
