Even if April showers dampen your outside plans, all the activities lined up by the Friends of the Pennsauken Library will add lots of sunshine to your days. The Friends’ annual Art Show runs April 17-24. There’s still time to create something wonderful to register and display; you’ll find all the details in the Art Show brochure currently available at the Library’s lobby desk. During the Art Show, the Friends’ are sponsoring a variety of activities all week long. As space is limited, you’ll need to sign up at the Library’s circulation desk in advance; and except for that Monday’s children’s workshop, all children be at least 10 years of age or older and accompanied by a responsible adult for the entire session.
On Sunday, April 17 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m., art teacher Fran Bennett will show the basics of water color techniques. Monday, April 18 from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m., is string art for fifth and sixth grade students. Art teacher Georgine Bradbury conducts this session for up to 15 participants. On Wednesday, April 20 from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., Barbara Piperno will show beginning quilters how to hand sew a quilt block. Don’t forget your thimble! Then on Thursday, April 21 from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. and again from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., come relax at one of our adult coloring sessions. Eleanor Gribok and Barbara Piperno, co-chairs and contributing artists to the Art Show, will lead the first and second sessions respectively; light refreshments will be available to make both coloring experiences even more enjoyable. Each session is limited to 15 participants. Next, there’s our color theory workshop on Saturday, April 23 from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Artist Eleanor Gribok will show up to 15 participants the basics of mixing paints to create their own unique colors. For each workshop, we’ll supply the materials. If you can’t attend a session you’ve signed up for, please let us know so we can draw from our waiting list.
“Iran Loves Jazz – a Travelogue” happens on Saturday, April 9 at 2:00 p.m. Jair-Rohm Parker Wells, the bassist for the band, Animation, presents a slide and video show highlighting the group’s goodwill tour through Iran. Participants can count on a unique experience captured through the eyes of the musicians and the people they encounter in Iran. We’ll supply light refreshments; and audience members can buy the CD for $10 afterward if they choose.
