Friends Of The Library In May: Mother’s Day, Museums, And Movies

By Arlene Miller, Friends of the Pennsauken Free Public Library

May has a lot more in store than the usual spring flowers we all look forward to. By now, the poems have been submitted for our annual poetry contest and judges are busy reading each one to decide the winners. Keep an eye out for a congratulatory letter if you’re one of the lucky ones, then make sure you’re free June 1 at 7:00 p.m. for our awards ceremony honoring all our winners. Good luck!

Just in time for gift giving, we’re holding another of our famous Friends’ cookie sales on Saturday, May 7 from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. or until the cookies run out. This is the day before Mother’s Day. What better gift than homemade cookies for that very important person? We plan on having a large selection to choose from, but be safe and get there early to make sure you have your pick. Once you’ve satisfied your sweet tooth – or your gift-giving responsibilities – check out the book exchange taking place that day in the Library, sponsored by the Merchantville Woman’s Club. Bring some books you’ve already read, and take home some you haven’t. Books and cookies: perfect together.

Museum Pass Program Renewed

One of the Friends’ most popular innovations implemented last year was the Museum Pass program. It’s been so popular with library members that we renewed it again for this year. What? Don’t know what the Museum Pass program is? Then check out this video for all the whats, whens, whys and wheres you’ll need to know to take advantage of this great opportunity to visit lots of local museums, all for free! And you can even take friends along.

Munch And A Movie Held On May 10

Finally, our monthly Munch and a Movie date comes up on Tuesday, May 10, beginning at 12:30 p.m. Last month, we showed “The Martian” to rave reviews from our audience. May’s flick will be just as timely and enjoyable, so come out and be surprised. Or, if you don’t like surprises, call the Library at (856) 665-5959 to see what’ll be featured. As always, bring along the “munch” and we’ll supply coffee, tea, water, snacks, and of course the movie. This get together will be our last until the fall to give everyone the summer off. By then, we’ll have a whole new slate of top rated movies to pick from. Hooray for Hollywood!

In the meantime, we’ll look forward to seeing you at our May 11 Friends’ meeting in the Library’s Community Room, so bring your suggestions for new events and programs. We want to hear them!
