By Arlene Miller, Friends of the Pennsauken Free Public Library
March is shaping up to be another jam-packed month; and the Friends of the Pennsauken Free Public Library are offering lots of things to do.
In that first category, all you exercise and meditation fans will be happy to know the Friends of the Library are once again sponsoring free yoga sessions to get us ready for spring. They’ll take place on successive Thursdays this month, including March 9, 16, and 23, in the Library’s Community Room from 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. Be sure to wear comfortable clothes and bring your mat. And don’t forget your water bottle; it’s pretty amazing how all those seemingly calm yoga moves help you work up a thirst!
Munch And A Movie On March 14
Our next ever-popular monthly Munch and a Movie get together comes up Tuesday, March 14, from 12:30 – 3:00 p.m. in the Community Room. February’s selection, “The Hundred Foot Journey” starring Helen Mirren, got rave reviews from our audience. No doubt March’s feature will do the same. It’s just that we can’t divulge what that’ll be, but you can find out at the library or by calling the circulation desk, or just let it go and be surprised. That’s always fun. Remember to pack a lunch and we’ll supply snacks and beverages.
Join Us For Our Membership Meeting
On Sunday, March 19, the Friends will hold our annual membership meeting at 1:30 p.m. on the Community Room, so if you’re not currently a member but have always planned to join and just haven’t gotten around to it, please attend and sign up. We’ll be holding the election of officers, followed by our informative video of Friends’ 2016 highlights. There will also be entertainment by the Pennsauken High School’s chorus, who will be singing selections from the upcoming musical, “The Wedding Singer,” as well as light refreshments.
If you can’t attend, you can pick up a 2017 membership form at the lobby desk, sign up and help the Friends continue to help the Library. We welcome new members and love new ideas for events, fundraising, and informative programs the Friends can sponsor.
Art Show Held Next Month
Remember, the Friends’ Art Show is coming up next month. We’re still finalizing workshops and how-to sessions taking place throughout the week of the show, which will be held from April 23-30. Plan to attend one or all of the free workshops and start yourself on a new artistic hobby.
Submissions Needed For Poetry Contest
The next thing you have to get ready for: our annual poetry contest. The awards presentation takes place June 7, but submissions will be due in early May to leave time for judging. That’s gives you only about two months to decide what you’d like to write. So sharpen those pencils or make sure your lap top is charged and get started! Submission forms with the rules and categories are now available at the lobby desk so you can get started.
We’ll be skipping our regular next Friends meeting in lieu of our upcoming annual membership meeting but will resume our usual second Wednesday sessions on April 12. Maybe we’ll see you then!
