Job Fair To Assist Pennsauken’s Unemployed And Underemployed

Pennsauken Township and the Business, Industry and Government Council is hosting the first-ever Pennsauken Job Fair on Thursday, Oct. 23 at the Living Faith Christian Center, located at 2323 Rt. 73, Pennsauken.

Held from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m., job seekers can meet with a variety of different companies, located right here in Pennsauken, that are actively looking for new hires.

“Regardless of what people are saying about the economy, a lot of our residents, and those in neighboring communities, are either one of the long-term unemployed, or they’re underemployed, stuck in a job that doesn’t come close to making use of their experience and skills,” says Pennsauken Mayor Jack Killion. “We hope that this job fair will give our residents better opportunities to support themselves and their families.”

“With new companies coming to Pennsauken, and current businesses expanding their facilities, we’re experiencing a lot of growth in town,” says Larry Cardwell from Pennsauken Township’s Department of Economic Development. “This means that a lot of new jobs will be opening up in the next few months, right here in Pennsauken. That’s great news for residents who have been looking for work, or looking for a job closer to home.”

Approximately 20 businesses are expected to participate in the job fair, including Aluminum Shapes, Dicalite, Restaurant Depot, Princeton Tech, CFI/Boomerang. Robinson Waste Disposal, and Physician and Tactical Healthcare Services, LLC (PATHS).

“We’ve received a lot of very positive feedback from local businesses about participating in the job fair,” explains Cardwell. “Companies are looking for good, hard working employees. We know they can find that with Pennsauken residents.”

In addition, several organizations will be on hand to help with crafting resumes, job counseling, employment services, and more.

For job seekers unable to attend the event or for those looking to get a leg up on the competition, Pennsauken Township has a page on their web site that allows residents to upload their resume prior to the job fair. By visiting http://www.twp.pennsauken.nj.us/content/pennsauken-job-fair, individuals can fill out a simple form and upload their resume. Each company attending the event will receive these resumes after the job fair, and Pennsauken’s Department of Economic Development will use the files to create a digital job bank for future employment opportunities in town.

“There’s no better feeling than knowing you’ve got a brand new job,” adds Killion. “We’d love to be able to help our residents get truly meaningful employment. A new job helps them, their families, our businesses and our community. Everybody wins. That’s a really great thing.”
