John Nettleton, a 22-year member of the Pennsauken Township Police Department, has been promoted to Acting Chief of Police.

“Township Committee is extremely excited to have John Nettleton as the ‘top cop’ in Pennsauken,” says Mayor Jack Killion. “Acting Chief Nettleton brings a fresh, new perspective to the job and will undoubtedly provide a high level of community policing to our town.”

“I’m honored to have the opportunity to lead my fellow officers as we serve the members of the Pennsauken community,” adds Nettleton. “I look forward to working with our elected officials, community leaders, and residents to make Pennsauken even safer.”

Acting Chief John Nettleton has been a member of the Pennsauken Police Department since July 1, 1996. He started his career in the patrol division, was a member of the bike patrol, and advanced through the ranks, becoming a sergeant in 2003 and serving in the traffic and detective divisions.

In 2009, Nettleton was promoted to lieutenant, during which time he received the Richard Dawson Award for Meritorious Service, which annually honors officers that demonstrate exemplary performance of duty.

In 2016, he received the Chief’s Award for Leadership for his work with Team Pennsauken, riding his bicycle from Galloway Township to Washington, D.C. during the Police Unity Tour, in remembrance of fallen Pennsauken Township police officers.

Nettleton was promoted to the rank of captain in 2017 and has served as chief in an interim capacity since September of this year.

A native of Pennsauken, Acting Chief Nettleton attended Saint Stephen’s Elementary School and is a member of Camden Catholic High School’s graduating class of 1991. He graduated from Rutgers University-Camden in 2003 with a Bachelor of Arts degree and has a Master’s in Administration of Criminal Justice. In 2016, Nettleton graduated from the New Jersey Chief’s Association Command and Leadership Academy, a unique blend of theory and application designed to develop future police leaders.
