Jones Becomes 400 Meter State Champion

By Eric Mossop, Athletic Director, Pennsauken High School

The Pennsauken High School indoor track team put together another solid performance at the NJSIAA Group III State Championship meet in Toms River. In the 400 meter race, senior standout Marquan Jones took home a state championship, and junior Martin Booker finished fifth. In the 55 meter dash, junior Martin Booker ran a time of 6.4 seconds to finish second in the state, followed by Marquan Jones in fifth, and Nazhir Russell in sixth. All now qualify to run in the prestigious Meet of Champions!

With his state championship run, Marquan Jones also became the first male individual indoor track state champion in our school’s history. Congratulations, Marquan!

Basketball Teams Make Playoffs

For the second year in a row, both the boys and girls basketball teams qualified for the NJSIAA playoffs!

Coach Lauren Creel and the girls team went on a late run to secure the number 11 seed and will travel to take on number six Moorestown; the Indians will be looking to avenge a loss to the Quakers earlier in the season. The girls’ record currently stands at 14-9, and the team is on their way to their first winning season in recent memory.

For the first time in five seasons, the boys team will host a home playoff game, as the number seven Indians take on number 10 Allentown, with the winner destined to take on number two Pemberton, in what would promise to be an exciting contest. The boys’ record currently stands at 12-11 heading into their final three games before the post-season.
