An event later this month is raising funds for a Pennsauken native battling through serious illness.
Melissa Courchain, who grew up in town and is a member of Pennsauken High School’s graduating class of 1998, has been recovering from medical issues stemming from cystic fibrosis, a genetic disorder that affects mostly the lungs. Last June, Melissa had to have an emergency C-section, as well as a double lung transplant. She had to return to the hospital in December 2016 for emergency surgery due to a resistant infection in her lungs. Melissa is currently in intensive care and working tirelessly to recover and return home to her husband and almost nine-month-old son.
To help defray the mounting medical costs, family and friends are holding a fundraiser on her behalf on Thursday, March 23. Held from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Pinsetter Bar and Bowl, 7111 Maple Ave., Pennsauken, the event features bowling, a buffet, 50/50 raffle, door prizes and more. The cost per person is $30 for adults, $20 for children and includes bowling, shoe rental and the buffet.
