During the Jan. 6 Pennsauken Township Committee reorganization meeting, the governing body’s leadership was selected for 2023. Vince Martinez is the town’s newest mayor; and Patrick Olivo is this year’s deputy mayor. The is the first time the two have served Pennsauken in this capacity.
“I’m honored to be able to serve my hometown as mayor for 2023,” said Mayor Martinez, the first Hispanic male to serve in this role in the history of the Township. “We’ve got some exciting things on the horizon, like the upcoming construction of Pennsauken’s community center. But in order for our Township to truly grow, we must all work together. By pulling in resources, like community groups, local businesses, and other like-minded organizations, we can boost opportunities for Pennsauken residents and our families.”
“Being a lifelong resident of this beautiful town, I’ve always hoped for the opportunity to serve on Committee. These past few years have been special,” added Deputy Mayor Olivo. “Pennsauken has always given so much to its residents, which is why, with the help of my fellow Committee members, I am so proud and humbled to serve as deputy mayor in 2023.”
Martinez was elected to his first three-year term on Township Committee in 2020. The lifelong Township resident and member of Pennsauken High School’s Class of 2002 grew up by Carson Elementary and now lives in the Bloomfield section of town with his wife, Ellie, and two sons, Vince, Jr., and Lincoln. Vince is a member of International Union of Painters and Allied Trades District Council 21 Local 2011. He is also involved with Merchantville-Pennsauken Little League and organizes yearly youth baseball clinics for Pennsauken and Merchantville children.
Patrick Olivo was sworn in as the newest member of Pennsauken Township Committee in June of 2021, filling an open seat on Committee. He was sworn in for his first three-year term after winning in the General Election that November. Deputy Mayor Olivo is a supervisor with the Pennsauken Sewerage Authority, where he’s worked for 19 years. A former member of the Pennsauken Environmental Commission, Patrick has also previously served on the town’s Zoning Board of Adjustment as an alternate. For many years, Olivo has helped with Pennsauken’s annual Angel Tree program, as well as the town’s holiday home decorating contests.
A member of Pennsauken High School’s Class of 1997, Patrick is raising his two young children, Ava and Logan, at the Townes at Haddon Point.
