Obituaries: Longtime Residents And Those Taken Too Soon

Obit1Matthew Feriozzi, age 19, passed away on June 4, 2016. Matthew was the beloved son of Anthony and Carol (nee Keiser); devoted brother of Ashley Feriozzi (Alex S. Kremstein) and Tyler Feriozzi; and loving uncle of Parker Kremstein. He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Matthew was a 2015 graduate of Pennsauken High School. He enjoyed playing the piano and listening to music, especially Lady Gaga and Miley Cyrus. Matthew was well loved by many friends and was an active and proud member of the LGBT community.

Visitation and funeral were held on June 9 at Falco/Caruso & Leonard Pennsauken Funeral Home. Interment followed at Calvary Cemetery in Cherry Hill. In lieu of flowers, the family would like memorial donations in Matthew’s memory to the William Way LGBT Community Center, 1315 Spruce Street Philadelphia, PA 19107.

Patricia Gibson, Longtime Resident

Obit2Patricia A. Gibson, age 73, of Pennsauken, passed away Monday, June 13, 2016. A longtime Pennsauken resident, Patricia was a kind and devoted wife and mother who had a passion for gardening and her beloved flowers.

Patricia was the daughter of the late Elmer and Sophie Nichols. She is survived by her loving husband, Alan Gibson Sr.; her cherished son, Alan Gibson Jr.; and numerous aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held on June 21 at the Gaskill Brown Funeral Home in Merchantville. Entombment followed at Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.

Peter Heckers, 100-Year-Old Veteran

Obit3Peter Heckers, age 100, passed away on June 9, 2016. He was the beloved husband of the late Margaret (nee McGirr); devoted father of the late Joseph; and grandfather of the late Patrick. He is also survived by longtime friend and dance partner, Barbara Barth.

Peter, who was highlighted in the June edition of All Around Pennsauken, was born in 1916 in Philadelphia, Pa and was a longtime resident of Pennsauken. He graduated from Merchantville High School in 1934 and began working at Antrum Hardwood Mill Supply. Peter married Margaret in 1939 and enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1940. His son, Joseph, was born in 1943 in Barksdale Field, Louisiana. He went to pilot training school and graduated as a commission officer and then went to 3rd Air Force training command and prepared to join the forces in Europe. Peter completed his tour of duty as a bomber pilot; when the war ended, he returned home in 1945 on the Queen Mary and joined the Air Force Reserves. Once he was home with his wife and son, Peter built a home for his family in 1954. At age 71, he started to learn ballroom dancing at the Stardust Ballroom in Bellmawr and danced until his health prevented this activity at the age of 95.

A Memorial Mass was held on June 14 at the Church of St. Peter, 43 W. Maple Ave. in Merchantville. Interment of cremated remains followed at Arlington Cemetery in Pennsauken. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Cancer Society, 1851 Old Cuthbert Rd, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034.
