Pennsauken Police Hold Second Annual Trunk Or Treat

To help the local community get into the Halloween spirit, the Pennsauken Township Police Department is hosting its second annual Trunk or Treat event in the parking lot of the police station, 2400 Bethel Ave. On Wednesday, Oct. 18, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., officers, Township officials and staff, as well as a variety of community groups and businesses, will be handing out Halloween bags, glow sticks, and plenty of candy to all of the little ghosts, goblins, princesses, and superheroes who stop by. There will also be food trucks on site, as well as prizes given out for the best decorated vehicles.

Student Representatives Participate In Board Meetings

Two student representatives from Pennsauken High School had a seat at the table during the Pennsauken Board of Education’s monthly public meeting in September. PHS seniors Yaniel Colon and Jordyn Seldon were on hand to share the thoughts and concerns of the high school student body.

“We have two student representatives here with us today,” explained Diane Johnson, Board of Education member. “Their objective is to represent the student body to the board, and to share ideas and concerns throughout the year.”

Senior Scam Presentation On November 2

As part of an ongoing commitment to public safety, Pennsauken Township is reaching out to senior citizens about how to avoid scams that are specifically targeting their community. A special presentation hosted by the Township, Pennsauken Police Department, Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 2, 2:00 p.m., at the Homestead Youth Association, located at 4771 Willow Ave. in Pennsauken.

“Our concern is to make sure our seniors are prepared for any scams, anybody trying to take advantage of them,” said Township Committeeman Marco DiBattista, who serves as Pennsauken’s Director of Public Safety and the Liaison to Seniors. “We want to make sure that everybody is aware of what scams are out there and what to do if something happens.”

After the presentation, seniors will be able to have their questions answered about the topic. Light refreshments will also be served.

Pennsauken Fall Festival Rescheduled To November 4

Because of the weather forecast for this weekend, the Pennsauken Fall Festival has been rescheduled to Saturday, Nov. 4, from noon to 4:00 p.m., at the Pennsauken Community Recreation Complex, located at the corner of Westfield and Bethel avenues. The Fall Festival also has a NEW rain date of Sunday, Nov. 5, at the same location and times.

Obituary: Thomas R. Rapa

Thomas R. Rapa passed away on Sept. 28 at the age of 77. He was the beloved husband of 52 years to Margaret Rapa (nee Campbell); loving father of Lauren Rapa Guzzo (Louis) of Marlton, N.J.; Patrick Rapa of Philadelphia, Pa.; and Michael Rapa (Christina) of Philadelphia, Pa. Thomas was also the dear brother of Maryann Rapa of West Deptford and the late Joseph Rapa (Robert Jones); son of the late Joseph and Margaret Rapa; and proud pop-pop of Ava Guzzo, Julia Guzzo, and Luca Rapa.

Pennsauken Fall Clean-Up Day On September 30

The Pennsauken Environmental Commission and the Township’s Parks and Recreation Department will be holding a fall clean-up day on Saturday, Sept. 30. Held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., volunteers will work along 38th St. and Chestnut Ave.

This fall, guests visiting Adventure Aquarium can explore the glow deep below as they dive into an underwater realm filled with gorgeous glowing gourds of all shapes, sizes, and species during the Aquarium’s brand-new Fintastic Fall Days, running NOW – November 5.

During this fall festival, guests will get the chance to see countless gourd-geous aquatically-themed displays showcased throughout the Aquarium, both floating on the surface and sunken deep below among sharks, rays, and other aquatic animals.

Obituary: Linda Maritza Rubiano

Pennsauken resident Linda Maritza Rubiano passed away on Aug. 29 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was 47.

A native of South America, Linda’s family came to the United States in search for a better life. She moved to Pennsauken in 2005 and was proud to call New Jersey her home. Linda was involved in her church, as well as several organizations that helped the environment and disenfranchised people, including the Sierra Club, Food and Water Action, and Eastern Service Workers Association. She also served as an alternate for Pennsauken’s Environmental Commission beginning in 2021.

Linda leaves behind her mother, Maria Rubiano; son, Joaquin Martinez; sister, Emperatriz Rubiano Atkins; brother-in-law, Brad Atkins; and nephews, Marco A. Mitchell and Abraham Atkins. Her presence enriched their lives in countless ways, and her memory will continue to be a source of inspiration and love.

Linda’s Mass of Christian Burial, was held on Sept. 8 at Saint Peter Roman Catholic Church in Merchantville, N.J. Interment was private at the request of her family. 

Community Invited To Car And Bike Show, Fall Festival

The Pennsauken community is invited to attend two popular public events: the Car and Bike Show, held on Sunday, Sept. 10, and the town’s Fall Festival, on Saturday, Oct. 14.

“This is a great time of year for public events in Pennsauken; our annual Car and Bike Show and our Fall Festival are right around the corner,” said Pennsauken Mayor Vince Martinez. “Both events are wonderful opportunities to get outdoors and enjoy a great time with our neighbors. We hope you come out and join us!”
