Pennsauken’s First Ever Autism Awareness Expo On April 24

Editor’s Note: Due to the ongoing construction at the Pennsauken Country Club, the Autism Awareness Expo has been moved to a new location: Eden Gardens, formerly The Regal, 1444 Rt. 73, in Pennsauken.
In recognition of Autism Awareness Month, a special event is being organized to support and empower families with special needs. Scheduled for Wednesday, April 24, the town’s inaugural Autism Awareness Expo will take place at Eden Gardens, formerly The Regal, 1444 Rt. 73, in Pennsauken, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Open to the public, this free event aims to shine a light on the challenges faced by individuals with special needs, like autism spectrum disorder, and their families. It also serves as a platform to showcase the various resources available to support these families in their journey.
Partial Solar Eclipse Viewable On April 8

On Monday, April 8, Pennsauken residents will be able to experience a partial solar eclipse, an event where the moon passes between the sun and the Earth, blocking a portion of the sun’s light. With the right weather conditions, you’ll be able to experience this celestial happening. Here are the details.
Next month’s partial solar eclipse will begin on April 8 at 2:08 p.m. The maximum view – the moment when the largest area of the moon is blocking the sun – occurs at 3:23 p.m. The whole event wraps up at 4:35 p.m. From start to finish, this eclipse lasts for 2 hours, 27 minutes.
Lions Pancake Breakfast On April 7

Pennsauken Lions Annual Ned Davis Pancake Breakfast will Sunday, April 7, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at Temple Lutheran Church, 5600 N. Crescent Blvd. The cost is $10 per person and includes pancakes, French toast, sausage, fruit, juice, and coffee. In addition, there will raffle baskets for attendees to win an assortment of items.
All proceeds benefit the Lions eye screening program, school scholarships, residents in need, and much more.

The Pennsauken Community Garden is excited to announce the inaugural seed and seedling swap! Please join the Community Garden as they prepare for the upcoming growing season.
The Garden Seed and Seedling Swap will take place at the Pennsauken Library’s Community Room, 5605 N. Crescent Blvd. on Saturday, March 23. The event runs from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
In addition to exchanging seeds and seedlings, the Pennsauken Community Garden will also have a selection of baskets available for raffle, with proceeds going toward funding their future garden projects. Pennsauken Stages Presents “Beauty And The Beast” March 21-24

The talented students of Pennsauken Stages are presenting a “tale as old as time.” Worldwide hit “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast” makes its way to Pennsauken High School March 21-24.
“It’s a fun entertaining show,” explains Kate Guenther, vocal music and theatre director at Pennsauken High School. “It has elements that in some way, shape, or form, our students have grown up with, whether it’s the animated movie, live action film, or Broadway show. We like shows that give us the ability to feature as many people as we can; and there were enough ways to be creative with this show that suited our kids and our style.
Pennsauken Easter Egg Hunt Postponed To March 30

Because of the rain forecasted for March 23, Pennsauken’s annual Easter Egg Hunt has been postponed to Saturday, March 30, at the same location and time.
Families can barely contain their egg-citement as the town welcomes the Easter Bunny back for Pennsauken’s annual Easter Egg Hunt. Sponsored by Pennsauken Township and Kiddie Junction of Pennsauken, this year’s free egg hunt will take place on Saturday, March 30, 10:00 a.m., at the Walt Nicgorski Sports Complex, located at Powell and Collins avenues. The Easter Egg Hunt is open to children up to age 9.
“Our Easter Egg Hunt is the start of several great Township events for the spring and summer,” said Pennsauken Mayor Marco DiBattista. “It’s an awesome event and we hope to see our families come out.”
Mermaids Return to Adventure Aquarium
“Real-life” mermaids dive among the largest collection of sharks in the Northeast.
Ocean enthusiasts are encouraged to bring their imaginations to life and embrace the magic of the Mer-World at Adventure Aquarium now through March 17 (Thursday-Sunday only) as “real-life” mermaids dive deep among its collection of sandbar, sand tiger and nurse sharks.
During this fan-favorite festival, Adventure Aquarium will offer guests the chance to make memories as they interact and take photos with mermaids underwater and above the surface.
Obituary: Antonio Diaz, Jr.
Antonio “Tony” Diaz Jr., of Pennsauken, passed away suddenly on February 28, 2024, at 42 years.
Tony was the beloved son of Antonio “Tony” Sr. and his wife Diane Diaz (nee Serrano); loving father of Kaili Jolie Diaz, Jocelyn Lani Diaz, Elisandra Carmen Diaz, Dianna Nydia Diaz and Toni Aurora Diaz; dear brother of Jessica ( Kevin) Diaz – Bass and Veronica Diaz; cherished grandson of Carmen Elena Nevarez and the late Carmello Nevarez, and Carmen and Gregorio Serrano; caring uncle of Arianna Bass, Isaiah Bass and Evangelise Banks. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
Tony loved spending time with his family, he especially liked to go fishing and crabbing with his girls. He also loved visiting Lake George, NY. In his free time, he loved bowling. He was a huge football fan, and his favorite team was the New York Giants. Lastly, he played craps and slots at the casino.
Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation and funeral on Wednesday from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Thursday from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. at Falco Caruso & Leonard Funeral Home, 6600 Browning Rd. in Pennsauken. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Mary Queen of All Saints, 4824 Camden Ave. in Pennsauken. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Cherry Hill.

Obituary: Anthony Leone, Former Tax Assessor
Anthony Leone passed way on February 23, 2024. He was 87 years old.
Anthony was the beloved husband of 64 years to the late Rosemarie (nee Zinicola); devoted father of Anthony and Diane (Louis) Kelly; loving grandfather of Anthony Philip and Danielle Marie; and dear brother of Nancy Loperfido, Catherine Broome and Robert (Bonnie) Leone. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Leone was employed for over 30 years as a tax assessor with the Township of Pennsauken. He was past president of UNICO and was a longtime active parishioner and head usher at St. Stephen’s Church in Pennsauken.
Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation and funeral on Friday, March 1, from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Falco/Caruso & Leonard Pennsauken Funeral Home, 6600 N. Browning Road. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Stephen, 6300 Browning Rd., Pennsauken. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Cherry Hill.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in the name of Anthony’s wife Rosemarie to the Alzheimer’s Association, 399 Market Street, #250, Philadelphia, PA 19106.
