Pennsauken Education Association Hosts Event For MLK Day Of Service

On Monday, Jan. 21, the Pennsauken Education Association (PEA) will host its first Dr. Martin Luther King Day of Service event for the Pennsauken Community. The National MLK Day of Service is intended to empower individuals, strengthen communities, bridge barriers, create solutions to social problems, and move us closer to Dr. King’s vision of a “Beloved Community.”

To honor this mission, students, teachers, and staff from all nine schools in the Pennsauken School District have been collecting various toiletry items since Veteran’s Day for the Day of Service event.

Volunteers will come together during the The MLK Day of Service to create care packages, from the items collected, for distribution to homeless shelters in the area. This event, held at Howard M. Phifer Middle School, 8201 Park Ave., Pennsauken, will begin promptly at 11:00 a.m. and end at 1:00 p.m., with volunteers being served lunch.

The PEA MLK Day of Service event is one of many PRIDE in Public Education activities to be carried out by the Pennsauken Education Association this year.

Volunteering to produce this event is one of the many ways that the Pennsauken School District employees give back to the Pennsauken community.

The PEA is an affiliate of the New Jersey Education Association (NJEA) and represents the teachers, nurses, librarians, guidance counselors, child study team members, and student assistance coordinators of the Pennsauken School District.

Pennsauken PRIDE is an ongoing campaign created to share the education successes of the Pennsauken School District with all Pennsauken residents, while building strong community support and involvement in our great public schools.
