The Pennsauken Environmental Commission and the Township’s Parks and Recreation Department will be holding a spring clean up on Saturday, March 29. Held from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., volunteers will be split between two locations. The first is Chestnut Ave., from 36th to 43rd streets; the meeting point will be at the intersection 38th St. and Chestnut Ave. The second area will be Pennsauken’s Elm Ave. Complex, 3501 Elm Ave., where kids will also be able to enjoy some fun nature-related activities.

“Each year, volunteers from our community come out and get some of Pennsauken’s great outdoor spaces ready for the warmer weather. We’re also excited to share some fun activities for kids as part of nature day,” explained Juan Vazquez, the Township’s parks and recreation coordinator. “This is a great project for community groups and young people who need service hours. We hope you’ll join us!”

“A major focus of Township Committee has always been enhancing our outdoor spaces. They are such an amazing draw for our residents and families,” added Pennsauken Mayor Nicole Roberts. “We thank all of the volunteers who come out to help beautify our community, and we hope all of the kids enjoy themselves with all the fun things planned for nature day.”

Each person, family, or team participating in the clean up will be provided with trash bags, a bucket, gloves (one size fits all), and trash pickers. It is suggested that volunteers wear boots, along with old clothes (long-sleeved shirts and pants), as individuals can get muddy and dirty. These clean-ups may be canceled/postponed due to weather 24 hours prior to the event.
If a volunteer feels ill within 24 hours of the event; comes in contact with someone who has the flu, COVID-19, RSV, or norovirus, or is waiting for test results; and/or have personally tested positive for these viruses or are awaiting test results, please contact the Parks and Recreation Department at the contact information below and stay home. The rain date for this event is Sunday, March 30. Registration for the spring clean up is required at least five days prior to the event.
