Cub Scout Pack 116 Pennsauken has a lot of activities planned for the 2016-2017 year. On Saturday, Sept. 10, Scouts headed to Rowan University’s Fossil Park to participate in a dinosaur dig. They will also be participating in the upcoming Pennsauken Car, Bike and Craft Show on Sunday, Sept. 18.
On Friday, Sept. 23 at 7:00 p.m., Cub Scout Pack 116 will hold their annual membership open house carnival at Martin Luther School’s gymnasium, located at Rt. 130 and Terrace Ave. in Pennsauken, at 7:00 p.m. Families with boys 5 to 10 years of age interested in learning about Cub Scouts, are welcome to come and enjoy some old fashioned games, cotton candy, and fun.
The following month, Cub Scout Pack 116 will hold their Welcome Pack meeting on Friday, Oct. 7, 7:00 p.m., at Martin Luther School and then participate in the Pennsauken Harvest Festival on Saturday, Oct. 8. In addition, the Pack heads to Pine Hill Scout Reservation on Saturday Oct. 15, for Cub Fun Day, where Scouts can enjoy a day of crafts, archery, BB shooting, hayrides, and more.
The rest of the year is filled with activities too, including the annual Pinewood Derby, Blue and Gold Banquet, Earth Day celebration, live action board game cub family camping, and more.
It’s never too late to join Scouts. If you son is busy with soccer or another sport in the early fall, they are welcome to come join after the sport is done; scouting and sports go very well together! Scouting allows a boy to work at his own pace; if he happens to be a little busy at one part of the year, he can make up the work later on. Or if he knows he will be busy, he can get things done ahead of time. Who knows where Scouting will lead? After all, seven members from this year’s USA Olympic team are Eagle Scouts!
If you are interested in signing up your son for Cub Scouts, the Pack meets on the first and third Fridays of the month at Martin Luther School at 7:00 p.m. Cub Scouts is for boys in kindergarten to fifth grade. Boy Scout Troop 118, for boys ages 11 -17, meets every Monday night at 7:00 p.m. in the Scout Room at the Grace Episcopal Church on Maple Ave. in Merchantville. Not sure your son will like Scouts? Come visit the Pack or Troop and get to know the boys and adults. For more information, call (856) 313 -7751, or e-mail cspack3116@gmail.com for Cub Scouts or Troop3118@gmail.com for Boy Scouts.
