By Marco DiBattista, Mayor of Pennsauken
As we close out 2024, you can’t help but reflect on an incredible year of growth and progress in Pennsauken. Serving my second term as mayor for the town I’ve called home my entire life has been an amazing honor, and I’m deeply grateful for the opportunity to help make Pennsauken an even better place to live, work, and raise a family.
I proudly called 2024 “The Year of Development;” and through the work of our great team on Committee and our municipal staff, our town is thriving, with transformative projects reshaping our community and positioning us for an even brighter future.
One of our crowning achievements is the construction of the new Library and Municipal Complex, made possible through funding from the New Jersey Library Construction Bond Act. Celebrated with an exciting groundbreaking in May, this dynamic facility will enhance how we serve our residents, creating a welcoming environment where families, students, job seekers, and seniors can connect, learn, and thrive. The library will be more than just books—it will be a hub of technology, collaboration, and opportunity.
And right next to this building, we’ll be thrilled to create “Welcome Home Jake’s Place,” an all-inclusive playground where children of all abilities can safely play together. The nonprofit, Build Jake’s Place, is based right here in Pennsauken, so this project is a heartfelt homecoming that underscores the strong sense of community that defines our town.
Having a community center in Penn has been an outstanding need, not just in my opinion, but our residents as well. Township Committee and our administration have been hard at work bringing this project to fruition; and in 2025, we’re projected to begin work on the new Pennsauken Community Center. This facility will offer state-of-the-art amenities, including indoor basketball courts, community gathering spaces, and dedicated areas for our senior citizens. It will also serve as a critical rallying point for residents in times of emergency.
Our commitment to building up our town continues with the Pennsauken Country Club. We’ve added a cutting-edge golf simulator building and are currently expanding the dining area with a new deck and four-season room. Whether you’re perfecting your swing, dining with loved ones, or enjoying the best view in town, the Country Club is a true gem of Pennsauken that we’re proud to make shine even brighter.
Pennsauken Township remains committed to enhancing outdoor spaces. We’ve put a lot of resources into building up our Municipal Pool complex, upgrading our popular pickleball courts, resurfacing the tennis courts and hockey rink, and installing an exciting parkour obstacle course. Upgrades to Tippin’s Pond are now just beginning, with contractors starting work on the parking lot, with more to come.
As I close out my year as mayor, I am filled with optimism and excitement for the future of Pennsauken. I’m also honored to continue serving on Township Committee, ready to build on this year’s momentum and keep our town moving forward.
Thank you all for your unwavering support throughout 2024. We’ve done quite a lot this year, and we’re just getting started.
Wishing you all a very happy holiday season, as well as a healthy and prosperous new year.
