New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) officials today announced lane closures on Route 70 eastbound and westbound Friday and Saturday nights in Pennsauken and Cherry Hill, Camden County, as a Route 70 corridor improvement project advances.

Between 8:00 p.m. tonight, Friday, March 25, until 6:00 a.m. tomorrow, Saturday, March 26, NJDOT’s contractor, Richard E. Pierson Construction, Co., is scheduled to close lanes on Route 70 eastbound from just before McClellan Ave., Pennsauken, to Sayer Ave./Garden State Blvd., Cherry Hill. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained overnight. By Saturday morning, eastbound traffic will be shifted to the left.
Between 8:00 p.m. Saturday, March 26, until 6:00 a.m. Sunday, March 27, there will be lane closures on Route 70 westbound from Sayer Ave./Garden State Blvd., Cherry Hill to just past McClellan Ave., Pennsauken. At least one lane of traffic will be maintained overnight. By Sunday morning, westbound traffic will be shifted to the left. The traffic shifts will create a work zone on the right side of the roadway in both directions for the installation of drainage pipe, curb work, sidewalks, and roadway reconstruction. This traffic pattern is expected to be in place through the summer.

The work is part of a $151 million state-funded Route 70 corridor safety and improvement project that will upgrade traffic signals at 27 intersections, replace or install four Dynamic Message Signs, improve drainage, sidewalks, and resurface approximately 9 miles of Route 70 between Route 38 in Cherry Hill and Cooper Ave. in Evesham. In addition to milling and paving Route 70, the N. Maple Ave. loop ramps and the Route 70/Route 73 interchange ramps will be repaved as well. The project is expected to be completed by winter 2026.

Variable Message Signs will be used to provide advance notification to motorists. The precise timing of the work is subject to change due to weather or other factors.
