South Jersey Sanitation Sold, Becomes Seaside Waste
By Joe Scavuzzo, Director, Department of Public Works
In early March, Pennsauken Township was notified that our current waste collection contractor, South Jersey Sanitation, Inc., was sold to a group with “over forty years of national solid waste operations experience.” This new management team looks to re-brand the company as “Seaside Waste,” featuring a new truck color and elevating the level of service.
Having been through the 2019 change from Waste Management to South Jersey Sanitation, I want to be direct with the following statements:
- The trash and recycling collection schedule will remain the same for Pennsauken residents
- Our town’s trash rules and regulations will also remain the same
Pennsauken Township is in year three of a three-year contract for waste collection services. Later this year, the Township will decide whether to exercise the fourth and/or fifth year options that were provided with the bid.
Please continue to communicate with Public Works for any service issues. In addition, residents can continue to call South Jersey Sanitation/Seaside Waste at (609) 561-0441, as the office staff is remaining in place.
As this business transaction is completed, Township officials will meet with the new management team to ensure continuity of collection services.
I feel it’s worth mentioning again: while the management team and the name on the side of the truck has changed, our town’s trash and recycling collection, as well as yard waste pickup, remains the same. We will experience the same six trash holidays during the year: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Each of these days will push the schedule to the next day, just like it always has worked.
