Seminar On March 16 Helps Families Save For College

Paying for college is a major concern for families. According to data from U.S. News and World Report, the average tuition and fees of attending a private college in for the 2016-2017 school year is $33,635, a more than three percent increase from last year. While significantly less, even attending a public, in-state school is pricey, with an average cost of $9,130 this year. And the average total debt of 2015 graduates who took out loans was $29,411. It’s getting harder and harder to save for college; and many families don’t know where to begin.

A special seminar, “How to Pay for College,” hopes to change that. Held on Thursday, March 16, 7:00 p.m. at the Pennsauken Country Club, 3800 Haddonfield Rd., this free event covers the fundamentals of funding college, distilling the complicated world of scholarships, grants, work-study, and student loans into the basics that every family needs to know.

Since the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day of Service on Jan. 16 is a holiday, does it affect trash pickup? Who do I talk to about a business that doesn’t maintain their property? Who do I call about a question I have about my upcoming court date? These are just some of the questions residents may have this month. Sometimes, finding the answers are easy. Other times, residents may not know where to go to get the information they need. Fortunately, Pennsauken Township has a variety of online tools available that help residents keep informed.

Turning A Tragic 36th Anniversary Into Something Positive

For a generation of kids back in the 1960s a band from Liverpool came into our hearts and never left. Here we are 52 years later and our grandchildren are Beatles fans. February 7, 1964 is a date we all remember, the day those four mop tops walked off a Pan Am plane at Kennedy Airport and joyous American Beatlemania began.

Another date, a very sad date, came 16 years later: December 8, 1980, when John Lennon was gunned down outside his apartment house in New York City. I was 32 years old that day, but I felt like 132.

This December 8, I’ve decided to do more than call friends, play John’s music, and remember his life. I’m going to remember how he told us to “Imagine” and “Give Peace a Chance.”
