Operation Christmas Dinner To Help Service Members Away From Home

Heather and Rich Cornforth’s son, Chris, joined the United States Air Force in June, right after graduating high school. And while the Pennsauken residents are fortunate that their son will be home for the holidays, others aren’t so lucky. So on Christmas Day, Heather, Rich, and an army of volunteers are planning on serving 100 military personnel from Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst at a local hall in town. They’re calling it, “Operation Christmas Dinner.”

2019 Small Business Saturday Specials

Each year, All Around Pennsauken highlights local deals and specials in both Pennsauken and Merchantville as part of Small Business Saturday. Held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, Small Business Saturday encourages shoppers to patronize small “brick and mortar” businesses in their community.

Pennsauken Celebrates The Holidays With Parade, Special Events

A few days after Thanksgiving, Pennsauken Township kicks off the holiday season with a variety of annual traditions. A series of parades, community events, and most importantly, the town’s annual initiative to help those in need during the holidays, make this a special time of year in Pennsauken.

Haunted Hayride Tonight At Pennsauken Country Club

Pennsauken Township’s annual Haunted Hayride will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 29, from 6:15 to 9:00 p.m. at a brand new location: the Pennsauken Country Club, 3800 Haddonfield Rd.

Easterseals New Jersey Honors Sweeney With 2019 Good Samaritan Award

Easterseals New Jersey, the state’s largest disability services provider, and their Raritan Valley Work Center Advisory Board have presented Pennsauken native Senator Stephen M. Sweeney with the esteemed Good Samaritan Award. The award was presented at the annual Raritan Valley Work Center Dinner at the Pines Manor in Edison, New Jersey. Senator Sweeney was recognized for his career-long commitment to the betterment of New Jerseyans with intellectual disabilities and special needs. His support has focused in large part on vocational rehabilitation opportunities, ensuring that people with special needs and disabilities across the state receive the best care and access to opportunities possible. The gala event took place during National Disability Employment Awareness Month, a key time to shine a spotlight on the potential and lingering needs of people with disabilities.

Michael D. Vergilio, Sr., age 87 years of Pennsauken, passed away on October 18, 2019. 

Friends Of The Library Book And Tech Sale Held This Weekend

The Friends of the Pennsauken Free Public Library are holding their annual Book and Tech Sale, beginning today and running through Sunday, Oct. 21. Held in the Library’s Community Room during normal business hours, the sale features a variety of books, CDs, and DVDs at reduced prices.

In conjunction with the sale, the Friends are also hosting their Fall Bake Sale. Held on Friday, Oct. 18, and Saturday, Oct. 19, during regular Library hours, tables will be filled with home baked brownies, cupcakes, cakes, pies, and cookies for purchase.

Proceeds from both sales benefit the Friends’ financial support of the Pennsauken Free Public Library.

Township Holds Annual Halloween Home Decorating Contest

The hunt will be on for the best Halloween decorations in town. Sponsored by Pennsauken’s Department of Parks and Recreation and the Pennsauken Youth Action Committee, the second annual Halloween Home Decorating Contest will recognize those home that go all out for the spookiest time of the year. A team of guys and ghouls will be creeping around town to locate the most impressive expressions of Halloween spirit Pennsauken has to offer. Prizes will be given to the first, second, and third place winners.

In order for decorated homes in Pennsauken to be considered for this year’s contest, residents must submit their address using the form located at twp.pennsauken.nj.us/content/halloween-home-decorating-contest. Registration runs through Friday, Oct. 18.

Sixth Annual Pennsauken Harvest Festival Held On October 12

Pennsauken Township, in association with the Pennsauken Firefighters Association, will host the sixth annual Pennsauken Harvest Festival on Saturday, Oct. 12. This annual event, held from noon to 4:00 p.m. at the Pennsauken Community Recreation Complex on Westfield Ave., brings the Township community together with a family-friendly atmosphere and great musical performances.
