Info On Last Night’s Fatal Shooting In Merchantville

From the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office:

The Camden County Prosecutor’s Office and Merchantville Police Department reported a man was fatally shot in Merchantville last night.

Merchantville Police were dispatched at approximately 8:31 p.m. on Monday to the unit block of Russell Avenue for a report of an unconscious person. Officers arrived and located the victim, Joshua Simmons, 21, of Pennsauken, lying on the sidewalk. He was suffering from gunshot wounds and was transported to Kennedy Hospital in Cherry Hill, where he was pronounced deceased at 9:07 p.m.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. No arrests have been made at this time.

Web Site Raises Awareness About Drunk Driving In New Jersey

The Pennsauken Police Department is helping to further awareness about the issue of drunk driving in New Jersey through their support of an online resource called the New Jersey Open Data Project – Stay Sober NJ. The initiative, created by law firm Davis, Saperstein & Salomon, P.C., and spearheaded by partner Steven Benvenisti, who was nearly killed by a drunk driver in college, compiles nine years worth of open source data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s FARS database, from 2005-2013.

Pennsauken, Merchantville Police Participate In Rapid Deployment Training

In today’s day and age, the threat of an active shooter looking to cause massive casualties is becoming more and more prevalent. To prepare for these types of situations, should they occur locally, the Pennsauken Township and Merchantville police departments are participating in joint rapid deployment training.

Pennsauken Police Hires New Officer

At the Township Committee meeting on July 22, Director of Public Safety John Kneib swore in Linnette Ramos as one of Pennsauken Township’s newest police officers.

Ramos is a longtime resident of the Township, who graduated from Pennsauken High School and worked as a lifeguard at Pennsauken’s municipal pool. She also has a lifelong desire to protect and serve.

Four Arrested During Narcotics Raid

On May 18, members of the Pennsauken Township Police Department Detective Division executed a search warrant at 3603 Forrest Ave. in Pennsauken. As a result of the search warrant, a quantity of heroin, manufacturing/distribution materials, and a firearm were recovered from the residence. The following individuals were arrested: Paul Clark, 23 years old, of Pennsauken; Dylan Clark, 22 years old, of Pennsauken; Yasmin Quiles, 19 years old, of Pennsauken; and Bazil Blann, 22 years old, of Edgewater Park.

The search warrant was the culmination of a narcotics investigation conducted by Pennsauken Township Detectives in concert with the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, Cherry Hill Police Department and the Camden County Sheriff’s Department.

Patrolman Responds To Medical Emergency

On May 16, Ptl. Delp of the Pennsauken Township Police Department responded to 5720 Rt. 130 for a medical emergency. Through his training and experience, Ptl. Delp determined that the patient, who was unresponsive and barely breathing, was suffering from a heroin overdose. Ptl. Delp administered Narcan and was able to successfully revive the patient, who was then transported to the hospital by Pennsauken EMS.

Police Conduct Patrols To Stop Distracted Driving

April is National Distracted Driver Month. It’s a time to remind motorists of New Jersey’s distracted driving laws, which includes a ban on handheld cell phone use and text messaging by all drivers and a ban on a cell phone use – handheld or hands free – by novice drivers.

Pennsauken Police will conduct special enforcement patrols targeting distracted drivers. This will consist of both roving patrols and fixed check points.

Pennsauken Police Ask For Residents’ Help To Stop Large Item Theft

PoliceOn Jan. 14 at 12:42 p.m., police units responded to a burglar alarm at 1400 Suckle Hwy. Two subjects, David Sanchez and Michael Sacammano, both of Pennsauken, were located in the building removing the copper pipes. They were both arrested and charged with burglary.

Due to the increase in theft of copper piping and other large item thefts, we are asking the public to notify the police immediately if any suspicious activity is observed. The thefts primarily occur in vacant business and residences.
