Board of education members make decisions that impact not only school districts but also the communities in which those districts are located. But what makes them qualified to do so, especially given that board members come from a variety of backgrounds that do not necessarily include education?

Next “Coffee And Questions With The Superintendent” Held On November 17

By Ronnie Tarchichi, Superintendent of Schools, Pennsauken School District

We had a great Coffee and Questions with the Superintendent” meeting with members of the community at the Pennsauken Country Club on Nov. 4. Beginning Thursday, Nov. 17, Coffee and Questions with the Superintendent” will take place from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the High School Cafeteria, 800 Hylton Rd. In order to make these opportunities more convenient for residents, they will now be held each month two hours prior to the Board of Education’s business meeting.

These are times where concerned parents or Pennsauken residents can come and ask questions regarding any topic within the school district in a casual, informal setting.

I look forward to seeing you, hearing your concerns and growing both personally and professionally from you.

Carson Students Hold Mock Presidential Election

Yesterday, students at Carson School took part in a special event celebrating the voting process by holding a mock presidential election.

The mock election was developed by Mrs. Savino and Tryon’s gifted classes. Students presented the idea to the school’s principal, Mrs. Joyce; employed Google Documents to record and tally the results; and helped students with the voting process. Students could choose from the two main presidential candidates and even got a sticker for voting.

Throughout the day, election results were announced over the loud speaker to help simulate how different parts of the country receive updates on the election after polls close in areas with different time zones.

So how did it all break down? One candidate received 83 percent of the vote with a decisive victory. We’ll have to see how this fun and educational event reflect the actual results of today’s general election.
