In conjunction with this reorganization meeting, we wanted to introduce the members of the newly seated Pennsauken Board of Education, each of whom will be working together to continue making Pennsauken schools successful.

It is no secret that social media is changing the way we communicate and interact with others, as well as the way we all learn. Facebook, Instagram, texting, e-mailing, tweeting, and blogs have become an essential part of the way we communicate in our daily life. In fact, one study conducted at the University of California at Berkeley found that social media’s constant and almost instantaneous communication provides an opportunity to improve social skills, helps to develop technology-based skills, and creates new forms of self-expression.

Board Of Education Congratulates PHS Class Of 2015

BoardBitsSliderFor the members of the Class of 2015, their years in the Pennsauken School District have come to an end. Like so many of the graduating classes before them, the achievements of this class are to be celebrated. Many of our graduates will be going on to further their education in college. Others will be advancing their skills in technical schools to prepare them for a career in a trade. Still others will be entering the military to begin a career in service to our country. Whatever path they have chosen, we, the Board of Education, hope that they look back on their years in Pennsauken schools with pride and fond memories that will last a lifetime.

Ceremony Honors Military-Bound High School Students

A formal ceremony to honor military-bound high school seniors from Camden County – including several from Pennsauken – took place on May 19 at the Mansion in Voorhees. Over 300 people were in attendance, including the families of the enlistees, local celebrities, elected officials, area college presidents and school administrators, high school counselors, representatives from all Camden County veteran’s organizations, and high ranking military officers from all five branches.

The program was made possible through the efforts of an all-volunteer non-profit organization, Our Community Salutes (OCS). OCS began in 2009 in Camden County and is now being duplicated in nearly 40 communities throughout the US.

“This is a time for us to thank and honor the high school graduates going into the Service who often receive little recognition,” said the OCS President and Founder, Kenneth Hartman, Ed.D. “These young men and women may be going off to war and need our praise, guidance and support.”

The following local enlistees were recognized at the event:

Pennsauken High School

  • Lorenzo Morales, US Army
  • Nhiem Bien, US Marines
  • Cheavin Kim, US Marines
  • Imani Glover, US Navy
  • Andrea Perez, US Army National Guard
  • Nini Tran, US Army National Guard
  • Thang Ngo, US Army National Guard

Camden County Technical School – Pennsauken Campus

Pennsauken Counselor Honored

In addition to the over 50 students recognized at the formal ceremony, Dennis Armento, a counselor at Pennsauken High School, received the General Colin L. Powell Service Award. The annual award recognizes the critical responsibilities high school counselors have in providing guidance, counseling and mentoring; and, in educating, coaching and assisting all students as they assess their accomplishments, talents, interests and aspirations.

Changes To Registration Procedures For Pennsauken High School

Last month, the Board Bits article focused on a discussion of the laws and subsequent policy that addresses residency eligibility and registration procedures associated with student enrollment and attendance in our district. This information was provided to emphasize the importance of this issue for all members of Pennsauken Township. The Board of Education wants to ensure that only students who are eligible to receive an education in Pennsauken are benefitting from this service. In order for the Board to achieve this goal, it is crucial for all parents and guardians to keep the school district administration informed of their current address, phone numbers, or any living arrangements or guardianship changes that may have occurred since the initial enrollment of their child.
