Out Of The Darkness Community Walk Held At Cooper River Park
The American Foundation for the Prevention of Suicide is hosting its Out of the Darkness Community Walk on Saturday, Oct. 9, at the Vista Deck at Cooper River Park. During the event, those affected by suicide – and those who support them – raise awareness and much-needed funds, strongly sending the message that suicide is preventable, and that no one is alone.
Held in hundreds of cities across the country, the Community Walks give people the courage to open up about their own connections to the cause, and a platform to create a culture that’s smarter about mental health. Friends, family members, neighbors and coworkers walk side-by-side, supporting each other and in memory of those they’ve lost to suicide. Day-of registration begins at 10:00 a.m. The walk ceremony begins at 11:15 a.m.

In “The S Word” ( 2017), a suicide attempt survivor is on a mission to find fellow survivors and document their stories of courage, insight and humor. Along the way, she discovers a rising national movement transforming personal struggles into action.
