Pennsauken is honoring those in our community that served our country in the armed forces as part of Veterans Day.
PHS Veterans Day Celebration
Pennsauken High School is proud to announce a Veterans Day celebration on Monday, Nov. 11, 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. The event will include the posting of the colors; a flag folding ceremony and presentation; remarks from SMSgt. (Ret.) Vivian Bender, aerospace science instructor for Pennsauken High School’s Air Force JROTC; and more. All local veterans are welcome to attend. Veterans Day Service At VFW Post 1270
Members of VFW Post 1270 and AMVETS Post 101 will be holding a Veterans Day service on Monday, Nov. 11, 11:00 a.m., at VFW Post 1270, located at 2324 Penn St., Pennsauken. All members of the community are welcome to attend, and light refreshments will be served afterwards.
Veterans Day Special At Pennsauken Country Club
For the tenth consecutive year, all military personnel, whether active or retired status, can play golf as guests of the Pennsauken Country Club on Monday, Nov. 11. The Country Club is located at 3800 Haddonfield Rd. For more information, or to set up for a tee time that day, call the Country Club’s Pro Shop at (856) 662-4961.
Veterans Appreciation Breakfast
The Camden County Board of Commissioners, in conjunction with the Camden County Veterans Advisory Committee cordially invites veterans to attend the Padre Peter Molnar Veterans Appreciation Breakfast on Veterans Day, Monday, Nov. 11, from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m., at the Collingswood Ballroom, 315 White Horse Pike, Collingswood. Township Offices On Holiday Schedule
Both the Pennsauken Township Municipal Building and the Pennsauken Free Public Library will be closed on Monday, Nov. 11, in observance of Veterans Day. Both will reopen on Tuesday, Nov. 12, for normal hours of operation.
Veterans Honored In Pennsauken
Local Native Shares Wartime Experiences Aboard Battleship
With the kids off from school for the NJEA Conference, we decided to take advantage of one of the Pennsauken Free Public Library’s museum passes and headed off to Camden to tour the Battleship New Jersey. While we were there, we met Elwood “Woody” Freeman, a docent at the battleship. It turns out the Woody grew up in Merchantville, lived in Pennsauken; he was gracious enough to share some of his stories about growing up in our community and serving in the Navy during World War II.
