The Abkinah Experience Opens In Pennsauken

By Frank Sinatra, AAP Editor

The Abkinah Experience, an Islamic boutique, recently opened its doors in Pennsauken, on March 25. The name of the retail space is a combination of the Muslim attributes of owners Anthony (Abdul) and T’kimea (Sakinah) Daniels; and the store is the realization of a dream long held by the couple.

“This store has been my husband’s dream for a long time. We were looking for a space for about a year,” explained T’kimea. “My daughter’s friend previously had this storefront and was moving. The owner of the property was so generous. She worked with us.”

Pennsauken Mayor Vince Martinez was on hand for the opening of The Abkinah Experience, an Islamic boutique located on Westfield Ave.

“T’kimea surprised me with this space. She helped make a goal of mine possible,” said Anthony. “It was amazing. She blew me away.”

The Abkinah Experience offers Islamic men and women’s clothing, as well as items such as incense and prayer rugs, appealing to a customer base who normally goes across the bridge into Philadelphia to shop. But there are also non-denominational goods, including beauty and hair products, and oils and body sprays.

“We wanted to bring something to the community and have you feel welcomed,” said T’kimea. “It doesn’t matter if you’re Muslin or not, if you find something you like, you can shop here.”

“I wanted to offer an outlet to know about Islam, to show that it’s a beautiful religion,” explained Anthony. “We wanted to bring something different over here, to provide peace, blessings, and love.”

The Daniels are hoping to get an early boost from the activity along Westfield Ave., which will undoubtedly increase as warmer weather approaches.

“We see a lot of people out here. There is plenty of foot traffic,” said Anthony. “We put a lot into this. We’re hoping that it’s profitable, not just financially, but also in good blessings.”

The Abkinah Experience is located at 4924 Westfield Ave., next to Miguelina’s Bakery and La Mangonada Snack Bar. Store hours are Tuesday through Thursday, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.; Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., reopening from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.; and Saturday, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The store is closed on Sunday and Monday.
